Here we are. The end of April. Blackcomb mountain is closing today until their summer opening in June. We're rolling into May with 250cm after all. This bodes well for us local yokels. We're going to do some fine spring skiing from now on up on Whistler mountain. We'll be thinking of all you beach bums
As you can see the temperature dropped and we got some fresh snow. Today we've got high cloud with the sun trying to do it's thing. I doesn't feel as though there is anything in those clouds so I think we'll have a dry, cool day with good snowconditions.
About today. If I say nothing I'll be saying too much. It's above freezing in the alpine. It's raining. 'Nuff said?
It's starting out great today. I would have called it an excellent day but even though the sun's shining there is some high cloud and the man has promised more snowflurries and the like. Go figure.
Forget T shirts and shades. Think suits and toques. It's cold up there. It makes for excellent snow, just don't get caught thinking spring. The wind is up as well. Not a banner day, is today.
To be brutally honest yesterday did not exactly deliver. After I wrote the report conditions deteriorated. Rapidly. With snow and everything, right in the village. I does mean we got another 9 cm to play with. The snowbelt this morning starts at about 2-300 meters(yards) above the valley floor. There is plenty of fresh pow up there and this time the sun, which is shiing right now, will keep on shining. Have I ever been wrong?
The World Ski Snowboard Festival is a major league party. Together with the late season snow we got yesterday and the high clouds with sunny breaks of today I would say. Be here.
And you thought that as far as new snow was concerned this was it! 15cm Fresh! How about that? Not only did we get new snow overnight but right now the clouds have parted (for the moment) and it looks like a an other paradise day out there. All you late season skiers, you picked the right dates. Remember that for next season.
Solid clouds but no rain/snow yet. It may never happen, the clouds don't look heavy enough. They are also high so no visibilty problems. Back to the World Ski and Snowboard Festival Party. It rocks!
Cloudy with sunny periods today. Snow should be in excellent shape but I won't be able to check it out. There is some heavy weather on the way but it should clear by Sunday.
An other excellent one. We're expecting some clouds later on today but it will be mostly sunny. By the way, I tried skiing down all the way into the village and it still works! I wouldn't rate it very high as a skiing experience but it saves you standing in line to download.
It's 9AM as I write this. It's already warm, my guess? It's goin to be a hot one today. By the way, a lot of you are up here. More than normal for this time of year. Keep it up people, there is nothing like spring skiing.
It's still here. Spring that is. The man says there is some rough weather coming this way later in the week. Let's get some skiing done while the skiing is good.
Spring's back! Take sunny skies, good temperature together with the fresh snow we got over the last two days and I think today rates a 9+. Come check it out.
It's still snowing! It's a little warmer than yesterday but it's still falling even down here at the valley floor. Some hardy souls were actually skiing all the way down yesterday and with the extra 12cm we got overnight I may do it myself this aft. It looks like we'll get an other 10-20cm today..
Welcome to our winter wonderland. It's snowing right now (8:00am). In the village! What can I say, April is a weird month? The weatherman doesn't seem to have much of a grip on this weather either. It may warm up today. It may not Meanwhile we have some fine powder to play with. Come on down.
I'm back and after driving from Montreal into Vermont during a driving snowstorm I'm happy to report that spring is here and it's here to stay in Whistler. It's -1c on top but it will get warmer during the day. Skiing into the village is now over and done with but there is plenty of excellent snow in the alpine.
A lot cooler today, clouds in the sky, we may even get some snow. I'm gonna be outta here for a week so here is what the rest of it looks like. We'll have cool cloudy days with some snowfall gradually turning warmer and with some sunny breaks towards the weekend. See Ya'll Next Week
An other glorious spring day but it's the last one for a while. There is weather system moving in with precip and cooler temperatures. He' it is April after all. We may still get snow.
Daylight savings time is here. Do we get to ski an hour longer or what? And what's with the snow base? It dropped from 293 to 275cm in one day? I don't think so. I thinks it's time to have a word with that lazy bum who is supposed to check the pole. Every day! Anyway, it's a fine day today, I may partake.
It's warm on top, a little too warm for comfort. The snow gets heavy when it's above freezing longer than a few hours. Mind you skiing in a T-shirt and working on your tan while doing lunch outside the roundhouse can grow on you.
Last day of March. We started this month with a base of 256cm, we had an excellent spring break AND were able to add to the base. I give this month an 8+, what do you think? Today is warm clear and sunny. I'll say no more.
An other excellent one. Spring skiing with a vengeance. At -3C (about 30F) in the alpine you might start thinking of leaving the heavy gear at home and going in shorts.
Spring's back. Blue sky, sunshine, fresh snow. Later!
There you go, 6cm not bad for March. Mountain are socked in again but probably will clear a bit during the day. This, socked in in the morning clearing during the day thing, has become spring 2000 ritual. I can live with it let's give today a 7+.
I am not impressed. As soon as the springbreak crowds go home the weather turns. The mountains are socked in and we have some light snow/rain falling at the moment. The weatherman says it'll clear up during the week. It'd better, I intent to be 'up there' from now until the end of May. Cheers.
More excellence. From now until June? You really should try to get out here and experience spring skiing the way it's meant to be Oh and..,don't forget your mountainbike, inline skates and or skate board for a little aprez ski exercise.
Spring Break, final weekend. I hope all of you who asked me during the last few months "is there going to be snow?" will email me with your reports. Me, I think you'all had an excellent week. Let me know. Today is looking good to excellent again with some high clouds and sunny breaks.
This definitely has been (and still is) the spring break from heaven. We started the week at 285cm we're now at 311cm. Most of that fell during the night with some days starting rough but all of them clearing towards the aft. Right now we are having a 9+ day the only reason it's not a 10 is that I can't get up there today.
Obviously the official snow depth reader needs a poke in the eye. We got 15 cm yet we dropped 7?? I'll have to go look for myself. Meanwhile (having just dug the car out of the driveway) I can assure that we did get 15 cm of fresh pow not only that. More is falling as we speak
I don't know if we have an optimistic meter reader here or what but the official snowpack all over sudden jumped to 3 Meters! I didn't think we we're going to get there this season but, here we are. Why is this important? It means that we'll be able to ski on excellent snow well into May! Right now we have low clouds with sun trying to poke through. Party On!
Two excellent days in a row. (Yesterday and today) A great start to the springbreak week. It's now afternoon and it's starting to cloud over. We've been promised more snow. Let's hope it falls tonight so tomorrow we can go back up and shred some more.
It looks very ski resort out there. We have a bit of fresh snow on the valley floor and the mountains are full of it. The sun is trying to poke through and the official conditions are "Soft packed on Machine groomed".
It's snowing again. It did stop yesterday later on in the morning making for a solid powder day. Visibility right now looks the pits but it has cleared during the day for the last few days. Why not today?
It's still here (see yesterday's yesterday). It's snowing right now (9:40am) not hard but steady. Anybody care to predict whether we'll get to the 3 meter mark this season? We obviously have a big powder weekend coming up. You gonna be here?
It's here (see yesterday), it was dumping big time just an hour ago. We even had a dump right here on the valley floor. It warmed up now and nothing is falling out of the sky as I write this. If you're a powderhound I'd say this is your day.
Turns out that that Pacific system we were expecting has been delayed 24 hours. Probably forgot its passport or something. Anyway it's supposed to arrive later this afternoon which makes today an other excellent day at least until it gets here..
Fresh Snow! Sunshine! Get up here, it won't last. We're right in between two Pacific weather systems. Tomorrow, more snow. Today, we party.
It looks very much the same as yesterday but you'll notice we did end up with 3 cm. Magic! Actually it fell overnight. We're now in between two weather fronts so the conditions are slightly unsettled but it's dry and there is fresh snow so let's go.
The weather is clearing. The tops are still in fog but you can see the sun trying to get through.. With all the snow we got over the last couple o'days this could turn into a solid day.
Today was an excellent day. Not! Sorry, I couldn't resist. We obviously had plenty snow but the vis was nowhere, the wind was strong and the occasional flurry made it even more interesting. Life's like that.
A bit of snow not so you'd notice though, yesterday turned out to be foggy up there today was much better. Days are getting longer mountains stay open later snow at the bottom is getting peanutbuttery. Spring's here!
We had some very light snowing in the valley this morning. It seems to be clearing up now. The afternoon is going to fair to good according to the weatherman. I'll check it out. Cheers.
The tops are covered with fog but it's very thin. You can see the sun through it, it looks like it will burn away during the day. Mind you it's getting suspiciously warm, I think that weather system we've been promised may show up later on today. For now I 'd rate today a 7+
I would rate yesterday a 9 out of ten. Some cloud showed up in late afternoon and it turned nippy otherwise it would have been a perfect 10. Today is starting of great but there is some thin high cloud and we've been told a Pacific weather system is on the way. We may get more snow tonight.
More sun. More blue skies. Less people (it's Monday). I think I will go and partake. Later.
As promised we're having a very clear and very crispy one. You can basically see forever and with the fresh snow we've had it's a skiers paradise up there right now. Bring your camera!
OK. We've had some real snow. It's still snowing very lightly but the sun is trying to break through and the man says a high pressure area is building over SW British Columbia. This bodes well for the weekend and next week. Plenty of fresh pow and spring weather, we do it all for you.
I did clear up a bit later on in the afternoon yesterday. It made for some great late day sking. Keep in mind that the mountains are open until 4 pm from now on. Today is starting socked in again but who knows. The visibility is OK but variable.
Socked in and snowing, I think that says it all. Basically we're working on a base that is going to last through the springbreak and beyond. We do it all for you.
As promised I went and had a look for myself yesterday. It was not a stellar day! It actually started up OK in the morning but by the time I got up there clouds moved in, snow started falling and visibilty was nowhere. Time to do some skiing under the trees. Luckily they've been adding glade runs to both mountains. I recommend those runs to any decent skier even on a sunny day. Today? Doesn't look much better than yesterday. Sorry.
There you go. One extra day just for you. Here in Whistler we are having low thin clouds with sun trying to burn through. This by the way is the view from the valley. In the alpine it will be different it could be clear. Tell you what, why don't I go check it out. Later!
Low clouds, sun is trying to break through but the man says there is an other Pacific system coming. It looks like morning skiing is good but the afternoon may get rough.
I've got weird weather and even weirder readings on my hands. It's supposed to be 0c in the Alpine but -2c at midstation. OK! Inversion, I can live with that. Down here were it's 0c it's also snowing! OK! I can live with that too, it looks fairly heavy down here at valley level, I would expect that when it's just barely at freezing level. What I don't understand is how I can go from 250cm (see Feb26) to 260cm when the reported fresh snowfall is 5cm??
Well, there you have it, 7cm and it's still snowing. Big time. It feels like it could go all day. It's snowing in the valley too by the way so all you Nordic skiers! Your trails are filling up nicely as well.
What can I say. It's snowing. Wait 'till tomorrow's report to see if something came of it
Cloudy with sunny breaks is what we're having right now, we did have some snow overnight. We've been promised more snow from a system that is hanging out over the Pacific Ocean. Right now conditions are good to excellent but I can't guarantee that it's going to stay that way into the afternoon.
After a snowy day yesterday we're having sunny skies and cloudy periods today with plenty of fresh snow. What are you waiting for!
The clouds are still here and we even had a trace of snow. It's warmed up in the valley so snow is now dripping out of the trees. A little higher up the temperature is not a problem all we need now is for those clouds to drop their load!
We've got some clouds moving in as promised. There's snow in them thar clouds. I can smell it! For today it's good skiing on machine groomed runs. Make sure your edges are sharp and get ready for some pow over the next week or so.
Well what do you know. Here is is Feb. 19 already. Time's fun when you're having flies (Kermit D. Frog). Not much to report, I went up yesterday (surpirse surprise) and am now nursing my aching bod. There is something about spring skiing, it makes you go faster jump higher and ache harder the next morn. All that blue sky and sunshine. People are starting to sport tans already.
It's cold in the valley. As you can see we're having a slight inversion. They usually happen on these extremely clear days and it surely is a clear one again today. Not a cloud in the sky. I may go up to get warm. Hope you don't mind.
Ok, so the report is a little late today. What can I say, I felt the need for speed. He' I may do the same tomorrow. As far as yesterday's flurries are concerned ( I am talking about all three of them.) sorry but. if you blinked you would have missed them. No new snow to speak off I'm afraid. Awesome spring conditions though. I could live like this.
As it turns out we're one day late. Those clouds yesterday? Nothing came of them. We had some clouding, we had some clearing but we had no snow. Today is different, we've been promised flurries and we had our first one this morning. Keep your pinkies crossed and hope for more.
With these temperatures and some hefty cloud moving in I am sure I'll have some major snow to report tomorrow. Right now the sky is still partially blue and sunny but as I said there are some big fat ones rolling as I write this. Stay tuned.
Not a cloud in the sky. It's still crisp up there. I would even say it's cold down here in the valley. I can here the derisive laughter from those living on the prairies and out East now. He guys, down here in southwestern BC we're not big on freezing our brass ones off. Skiing in shorts is more our style although that's still a few months away.
Layer up! It's a crisp one out there. Nice blue skies mind you but still, after the mild temperatures of the last few days it's a reminder that it is still winter in these here parts.
Riding the edge. That's what I've been doing today. It looked like it was going to snow seriously earlier on but right now the sky is breaking up and there's blue spots all over the place. We've been promised snow for tonight. I'll keep my fingers crossed.
There is definitely a touch of spring in the air. People are hanging out on the patio's at Black,s Citta's and Amsterdam the skiing is great under blue skies and on soft groomed snow. There are icy spots at the bottom so take it easy on the last run of the day.
Right! We are back in the snow business. We even had some on the valley floor. It's warmed up down here but I can tell by the snowline in the trees that from Blackcomb BaseII up all's well. We've been promised spring weather for the weekend and with the base at 250cm there's no need to guess were I am going to be!
It got a little messy down here in the village. Rain, fog, sun we got it all. Today looks the same. On top of the hills it was and will be a whole different ballgame. The temperature has dropped back to normal so any precip will be fresh pow up yonder.
Lots of (low) clouds but nary a flake! It's not cold and I can make out a bit of the sun trying to poke through. I would think it's clear up top but with fogbanks rolling through every once in a while.
So much for those clouds. It's an other spring day screamer. Blue skies, sweet snow, you know the routine. Regrettably I won't be able to partake today. I'm of to the big city. (that'd be Vancouver for those of you who missed geography) I hope you al have fun without me.
A slight inversion as you can see but yours truly had a great time none the less. Some high cirrus is moving now (aft.). We've been promised some precip. so lets keep our fingers crossed especially those of you into pow.
Weird! It's -2c at midstation. Anyway the sun's shining and the snow is sweet as the lifties at the Harmony chair assured me. Tomorrow more sun. Is spring here already?
Snow and rain down here in the valley. Higher up we're working on fattening up the snowpack. We do it all for you. I hope you appreciate it.
Winter is back. Time to start working on the old snowpack. It looks like the next five days will have snow on and off. I have been known to be wrong.
Today was a gorgeous one. I had to go check it out hence the late report. No new snow as you can see although they do a good job keeping the runs fresh with snow guns. Me? Give me a well groomed run, sunshine and plenty space for me to build some speed and I am a happy boy.
Yesterday was excellent, mild inversion still holding, sky still blue, going to be an other ripper. See ya.
Right! It's inversion time again I'll have to get up the hill if I want some warmth. Strangely enough I had planned to go up today to do some wintersporting anyway. Doesn't that work out nicely? Skies are clear as promised, looks like an excellent day.
Not much to report except that the grinch that eats snow has been busy as you can tell by our shrinking base. We have two sunny days coming up. We may drop to 210cm before the next dump. Two steps forward one step back. Life's like that.
I don't know what it is with these pacific weather systems nowadays. The last ones have been real wimps. At least back east you're having weather with some brass ones. It may not be what you've have been hoping for but there it is. Over here? We could use some snow.
OK so the clouds started rolling in last night and the snow started around 11 AM. Sofar we have about 2cm of fresh because what's falling is the very fine light stuff. If this keeps up until tomorrow it'll be an other powderhound's paradise.
A day at the beach, no doubt about it. Clear blue sky, sun all over the place. Good temperature, it will no doubt get warmer as the day progresses. I can handle this.
Unlimited visibility, high clouds, light may be a bit flat, soft groomed runs and a decent temperature. All in all a yeoman's day I'd say.
It did stop snowing in the afternoon of the 20th eventhough it looked liked it was going to go on all day. It started clearing in the afternoon. Yesterday the clearing continued and I felt the need for speed. Today we have blue patches, high clouds and good temperatures. The snow is soft groomed. I may have to go up again to see for myself, it's a dirty job but..
Well people, it's back to January conditions again. It started snowing early this morning and looks like it's going to be an other full day event. Right now it's the really light champagne powder variety so all you powderhounds, get yer yaya's out!
We're having a bit of an inversion again as you can see. It's also a completely cloudless day out there. What happened to all those systems that were hanging around over the pacific? One moment we have 3 days of solid snow, the next we're in the middle of a high pressure area. It must be la nina's revenge. More spring skiing in winter. I am totally not complaining.
An other gorgeous day today. Blue skies, little wind, plenty snow.
That's more like it. The 3 meter mark is in sight. There are a few blue patches visible but there's also the occasional low cloud bank rolling through. It's going to be a variable day but with all that fresh pow on top I must go and partake. Later!
It hasn't really stopped snowing for the last 48 hours. Sometimes it's heavy sometimes it's barely noticeable. I don't know why the mountains report only a trace because everybody down here in the village is on constant driveway dig-out alert. It must be the air up there. I'll go check it out for myself tomorrow.
The big guns are blasting. This means there are large snow accumulations in the avalanche danger zones. Once they are done blasting there will be some excellent ledges to jump off of into Harmony bowl. Blackcomb has a few jump offs as well if you don't mind a bit of traversing. Meanwhile it hasn't stopped snowing for about 24 hours.
As you can see the skies did not stay clear yesterday. An other system moved in and dropped it's load. We're well on our way to the 3 meter mark. Right now we've got low clouds and it's snowing very lightly. The man says there is a clearing trend starting up over the weekend right into next week. If you're planning a quick holiday the next couple o'days would be good.
OK, it's a little warmer, we've got tons of snow (see yesterday) the sky is clearing (it's just about solid blue). the only question is, what am I still doing down here?.. See ya.
Snow! Lots of it. Tons of it. The cold front is still holding. They've even got snow in Vancouver whoohee! Limited vis because we still have low clouds hanging around but if you're into fresh pow this is your day.
An other gorgeous but cold one today . Yesterday was all right but it got a little hairy at the higher elevations. Not enough for them to close the peak chair but with a strong wind and gritty snow blowing almost horizontally you did want to get of the ridge in a hurry.
A glorious one, is today. It started out snowing but it began clearing around 10 o'clock. It's clear as a bell now and there's plenty of fresh pow. I'll leave the rest up to your imagination
Plenty of fresh pow to go around! I am writing this at midday. Good thing too, it looked socked in this morning but its now opening up nicely.
Well as you can see the boatload did not (yet?) arrive. It kept on snowing lightly yesterday but it wasn't enough to register at the great measuring pole on the hill. It still feels like that boatload is about to be dumped. Keep in touch.
It's snowing lightly but there is a boatload coming according to the man. Right now the snow is in good condition and the temperature is good. Visibility on the other hand sucks.
It's nippy up there but clear as a bell. I think I may just go have look
for myself today. No wind, unlimited vis and plenty of snow.
SNOW! Need I say more? Gobs of it, mountains of it. Pow up to your ears. Temperatures are back to Whistler normal. The visibility is clearing as we speak. An excellent day by all accounts.
It's borderline cold up there. -12c is not cold if you're used to skiing in the East or on the Rockies but for us it's getting there. I remember a few -17c days last season but not fondly. Luckily there is little wind today. The vis is iffy but the snow is gorgeous. Today gets a 7- I'd say.
I don't know about your place but over here the new year/century/
Yes!! The snow is back and just in time too. It's cool to leave this old century behind with a bit of fresh pow on the hill. As I mentioned in the village report all you Kiwi's, Ozzies and Japanese are already living in the next century, listen up, if you've made up your mind that this century you are going to ski hard or ride harder we have two excellent mountains for you right here. You know where to find us.
OK. It's official. The great end of millennium Whistler inversion has gone. It was great while it lasted. Some of our Christmas visitors will go home with ski memories to last the next century. Now it's time to get back to work, let's get some snow happening here!
Inversion is slowly melting away. Now new snow, or even a cloud, in sight. It's cold enough for the mountainmen to be making snow good thing too because the lower regions never had much to begin with and it was getting rough skiing into the village.
So what happened on the 27th you may well ask. Not very much I'm afraid. The base compacted down to 190cm is all. We're all ready for some pow. The weatherman says things are about to change. For today it's cooler on top but the inversion is still here.
Just so you get the complete picture. It's +16c on top +7c at midstation and -2c in the valley. Somebody is obviously having an end of millennium joke on us either that or Y2K is kicking in early.
It's a strange one around here. The inversion is still holding and we now have a situation where the trees on top of the mountain are green while further down they still carry snow! Oh well. the last Christmas of the century decides to give us spring skiing in December. Am I complaining? Have a merry one.
The inversion on steriods is still holding. It's weird, skiing in spring conditions until the end of the day when you head into the village and into the cold. Today is probably the last day of weird wheather as it is conditions are high overcast, unlimited vis. and groomed hardpack.
The inversion is holding but skiing conditions are actually great. Once you get above the low lying fogbanks it's like spring skiing. It looks very much like yesterday but looks can be deceiving (the fog burned off around noon) so if you don't mind I'll go see for myself. Now where did I put my spring ski gear?
The wind is weird coming from the SSW? The temperatures are weird we have 10 degree diff. between the tops and the valley but we're the cold ones down here! We're also socked in down here I can't see the building across the road let alone the mountains. I'm going back to bed.
I'm back and she's a beaut. (the day that is). Clear as a bell and warm! We're having an inversion and it's warmer on top then down here in the valley. Since the base line snuck over the 2 meter mark while I was gone the situation is, plenty of soft snow and a chance for all you pale faces to get to work on a tan.
Got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is I am checking out for a week. I'll be back Dec 22. Good news is the x-country trails are un-officially open (that means you get to ski for free). The next 10-15cm dump will make it official which also means the alpine runs into the village will formally open (hot doggers have been running them for days). Cheers from me.
Turned out that yesterday wasn't as excellent as I first believed. As soon as I finished the report the place got socked in and the uglyness started. We live and learn. Right now I can see the tops there is some high cloud and blue ski. It looks great but is it going to last? Ahhh the joys of early season weather. Why not click on the five day forecast and let experts take the blame.
After a rough start this is turning out to be one of Those days. 21cm of fresh pow and clear sunshine which arrived at about 11:30 AM. Need I say more?
Not much change. It's looking very 'early season' out there it could start snowing any moment but then again it could rain, at least down here on the bottom. Visibility on the hill is unlimited but the light is going to be flat in certain areas.
A little of this and a little of that. So much for the valley snow conditions. The temperature goes up and down so one minute it rains the next it snows. Not much of either mind you. The conditions up top are a 7 minus I'ld say.
We got a big dump overnight as you can tell by the numbers. I hope you don't mind but I went and partook of the pow on offer today. By the way, this dump fell top to bottom so it's starting to look good for you x-country folk.
Yesterday yours truly took the day off to go see for himself. I went, I saw, I skied. It was one of those rare Dec. days, no wind, -7c, clear as a bell. Today high cloud is moving in. There is a Pacific system on the way, hopefully with lots of snow. Sofar only those with really old skies/boards ski all the way into the village.
No warming trends in sight and lots of precip coming this way. I think we are about to do some serious pack building this week. The valley is going to get it as well, we got 4cm on the floor overnight.
Can't see the tops today. They're socked in. Temp is good and lots of snow up there. It's above 0c down here on the valley floor so what little ground cover we had is melting away. Apart from that it's not raining so I would think the alpiners are having a good day.
The tops are visible today from the valley floor. There is high cloud and the light may be a bit flat but it's clear and I would say conditions are good.
After an ugly start yesterday things got better. The sun even tried to
look in on us. Today looks like a light day with high clouds although
right now the tops are covered in some fog. Temperatures are below zero
but not really cold. For you
Yeah. I know I didn't get to it yesterday, here is what you do. Read Nov 30 again, yesterday was more of the same except for the latter part of the day when the temp dropped, that's when the snow hit the town. Half a foot in the driveway I hope you're happy.
Let's be brutally honest. It's ugly out there. If my face was as ugly as the weather right now I'ld trade it in for a horse's butt. Never mind, it's cold enough for snow on top so who's complaining? Special note for the x-country crowd. Sorry no snow in the Valley as yet.
Fog in the Valley. Sounds like a song title or maybe a mystery novel. Anyone need a good title for their ouvre? Call me, we'll talk. Meanwhile they say it's clear on top with excellent softpack skiing. I believe'm, how about you?
Hmmm? That info bar above this sentence looks suspiciously like yesterdays. Oh well that's what you get when you have a system just hanging around. There is an other system coming this way which promises some major snow. Meanwhile the conditions are light snow and variable vis.
Yup. It's snowing, real light fluffy stuff, it's going to make for an excellent layer of pow if this keeps up. It's cold on top so wear your woollies. Wind's not bad (20-30 km/hr). A marvelous day I'ld say.
It's 'mercan thanksgiving weekend. Obviously you guys did something right. It's gorgeous out there. Plenty snow, clear skies. There is some cloud on the way in, sofar they are high up. Clouds are OK though, no clouds no precip, no precip no snow, no snow no.. well you know.
I can smell it. The official opening date is neigh. Or maybe it's all that snow in the air I'm smelling. We woke up this morning with 5cm on the valley floor. It turned to mush by mid morning but who cares there is 7cm of fresh on top. For those of you coming up for American Txsgiving. I believe you're going to find excellent early season conditions.
This is definitely one of those days and we are still 1/2 a week away from the original Nov 25 scheduled opening. We have a clear blue sky, little wind, and fresh snow on top of our early season base. This must be a springskiing preview.
Hi Ho and a bottle of snow (or something like that). OK so no snow fell today but right now it's raining and it's cold. As a matter of fact down here it changes from wet snow to rain and back. This means it's snowing on top. Trust me!
The cold is back and so is the snow. 4cm of new snow, not a hell of a lot but better than a kick in the (fill in favorite bodypart). The next Pacific weather system is lining up with more precip but also more warmth. Can't have one without the other it seems. Still, all in all today was excellent.
Just like gravity the weather around here sucks. It's warm down here but even warmer up top. We're having an inversion. Warmth packs down the snow and rain doesn't help I think an other mindmeld is in order. Think Cold!
Not bad for an early opening. A little icy. Top runs were fine. Those are some of the comments from those who hit the slopes today. It was snowing outside just a second ago, it turned to rain but it is sure to go snow again tonight. Anybody care to speculate on whether we'll be skiing into the village come American Thanksgiving?
I am weirded out. After all the snow and rain I step outside today and it's... Spring! The driveway which had a foot of snow on it a week ago was clean and with the sun shining it felt actually warm. Anyway all that rain the last few days got us over the meter mark at mid mountain and tomorrow is opening day. See village report
All that rain? It paid off, we got 7cm today and it's still raining. Mid-Mountain is at 85cm. We may have a meter by Saturday, come on down.
Still raining. Mountaintops invisible because of fog. Everything hinges on the temperature, lets have a mindmeld and push that freezing level down. Stay tuned.
Blackcomb Mountain To Open Early! See the village report. But..what we all feared has happened. A warm spell has arrived and the snow has turned to rain. It's hard to tell how high the freezing level has gone because the mountains are socked in. Let me put it to you this way. I am going to be extremely peeved if it's raining above the Olympic station.
OK, that first fall in October that was a fluke. The second one a few days ago? That was obviously a flash in the pan but now I am left with a question. What is this last dump, the one that dropped an other half a foot in my driveway last night? This is starting the look like the real thing folks. No word yet about any early openings from the hill people. Never mind, the regular opening is going to be a dozy if this keeps up.
Some of you are already writing me. Me, you say. Me, where's the report, you're three days behind. Let me put it to you this way. I've been busy. Shoveling the driveway. I shoveled about 10 cm. On November 3rd! Last year I didn't report any serious snow until Nov 17th and that was on top of the hill. Yesterday I took a walk on the golfcourse, some guy had made tracks ahead of me. With His Nordic Skis! The official word is 75cm at midstation and 125cm on top. No word as yet about an early opening though.
After 3 days of rain/snow the last day of October is a gorgeous one, we can now see what all that precip has accomplished. For all intents and purposes this could be a clear day in January. The mountains are white from top to bottom and I just cleared a path on the driveway to get my car out! I don't know about you but I feel the need for speed.(downhill speed that is)
It's official, winter is here. That snowfall a few days ago? That was not a flash in the pan, we've had rain in the meantime but the freezing level never got more than about 500 M above the village. Today it's dropped passed the village again and guess what, it's snowing again. Who'lda thunk it.
Stop the presses! It's starting..! Snow in the village, the valley and half way down to Squamish. Not only is it falling it's staying! Time to start polishing the old goggles. See ya later (la'er if you're from Oz).
We're on our way. The other night we had a downpour. The type that rattles the windows and sounds as if Santa and his 64 little reindeer landed on your roof. Than we had half a clear day when we could eyeball the peaks and lo and behold the top runs where covered.
The weather is gorgeous right now and hé I am happy, however! No clouds means no precip means no snow. The freezing level has been passed the village level several times (we're at 600m). Trouble is when it's cold it doesn't rain/snow and vice versa. Oh well, it's early days and the peaks are covered up nicely.
Well people, I believe it has really started now. It's a partially clear day today and I just had a peek at the peak. There is definitely snow up there. We did have quite a bit of precip over the last few days so it makes sense that there'd be some. Still, it's good to see that first dusting of the season.
The gorgeous weather is holding. We had two cold days in
September which resulted in a trace of snow in the alpine. (Our local
bear researcher figures it was 3-5 centimeters). It looks like it's all
gone. It was a reminder of what we are here for though. |
