A fine last day of the year, snow galore but it has been very very busy in the vill as well as on the hill! Let's blow this year off with a bang. See you in 2007.
A solid day, machine groomed softpack with a bit of fresh mixed in plus hidden pow fields for those who care to go look for those things. There are all kinds of predictions for flurries from now on with the big one being this coming Tuesday which is supposed to bring up to 35 cm. Stay tuned.
It's warm up there guys make sure your layers go off an on easily. Watch out for that fairly hefty wind though. We may see the earliest flurries of fresh pow by this aft.
These are the December camera days, don't forget to bring yours. Oh by the way the warmer temperatures are on the top today, we've got an inversion going on.
No new snow until Friday at the earliest. Come and ride the most groomed softpack terain in the world.
Another 12 cm? Oh well you know, it's what we do. Looks like this is it until next year, come and check it out is all I can say.
*************Merry Christmas************
Not much happened yesterday or today (up to now) but there is something brewing of the coast. Big wind and big snow are coming this way and it should be here by this afternoon. You where looking for a big pow Christmas? Look no further!!
A quiet day on the western front. 2 cm overnight but a nice clear day coming up with some wind but not outrageously so.
Oh well, another 17 cm yadayadayada. By the way it's raining in the valley but the freezing level hovers about 100 meters above the village so it's snow (almost) all the way.
Pretty windy up there people but lots of pow. Conditions generally are groomed softpack. The rest of the year we'll see more snow and we'll start the new year with, wait for it..., more snow. Remember you read it here first!
The great Whistler Internet Blackout of 2006 is over. It's actually one of the storms that dumped all this snow on us that took out a transmission tower. Anyway we're back and conditions are better than ever. Powder fields all over the place and glade runs to die for. Be Here!
Whistler is without internet connection!!! Everything is down, we're having to dial in to Vancouver. Sorry it's going to be a while
Yesterday the high alpine never opened, also today Symphony Express will be officially opened. There is a lot terain with untouched pow to be had. What am I doing here??
You want to read that new snow bit again. I am outta here. Later!
It has been snowing on and off all day which will be reflected in tomorrow's numbers and believe me they will be good. Snow is coming down as we speak from peak to valley that is. The wind has died down and the riding is awesome, see you here.
Today was definitely one of those days where you had to know the mountain. Which lifts are shortest and mostly out of the wind. Which runs are sheltered from the elements. Alpine snow was gorgeous, mid mountain was grabby and hard while the run out was slushy. Take your pick.
Ok, so, that 30 cm actually fell as 23cm on Monday and 7 cm today (sofar). I hope you don't mind the delay in reporting. Anyway I am off to partake I am sure you don't mind that either :} (evil grin)
Still a lot of ugliness guys, it's snowing in the alpine but the freezing level is doings its yoyo thing again so right now it's raining down here in the vill. The forecast? Lots more snow but where oh where is that freezing level going to hang out?
Ok guys, it was all a bit sad these last two days. We had rain this morning top to bottom and we may get some more overnight. The good news is there is cold air on the way and lots of snow flurries
A little too warm for my liking. The snow gets soggy and soft but when the inevitable freezing temps come back it'll harden up in an unhappy crunch. Not to worry though, big snow is on the way for this weekend says the man.
Not an awesome day but a good one. Plenty snow, not too cold, a little rainy in the village but who cares that's not where we slide.
A little snow a little rain today. The freezing level is creeping up but not to worry. There is no precipitation in the forecast so we can handle the warm air. The next few day we're going to have sunny breaks and soft packed snow. Want some?
We're back into normal tempearture range for these here parts. Snow's a'coming and all is well with the mountains. Planning your holidays? Whistler is not going to disappoint you!
Ok so we can't look at each anymore, point at the snow and say, wow.., look at that and it's only November! Still this ain't bad conditions for December neither. We should get some more snow on Monday. Stay tuned.
One centimeter short of the magic 20cm. Around here 20cm is the magic number when people don't show up for work, schools close and everybody is on the hill. All in all 19cm works for me though.
That's better, -12c I can live with altough it depends on the wind chill. We've got a front passing over tonight and tomorrow so we will end with more snow. How much? Stay tuned,
Ok, it's now seriously cold, 5 layers cold, keep them toes moving cold. Let's hope this is not going to last much longer. I know all you east coast types laugh at -20c but for me, if the snow is so cold it doesn't let slide on it it's Too cold!
It's brass balls time up there, make sure you layer up and have something to cover your face especially for when you ride up in a chairlift.
Ok, so we are riding into the village from Whistler Mountain but it is still out of bounds! Lower Olympic is not groomed and has some ditches and stuff that you need to work with but hey, Death before Download!
Awright enough with the snow already, I am getting sick and tired of shoveling the drive way.
And it just keeps on coming I mean 17, 18, 20cm days? In November? What Up? Hey, not that I am complaining you understand. I might go up there today and complain about guys cutting my powlines or something though. I mean what else am I gonna complain about?
Snow's coming down thick and heavy, the guns of winter (avalanche control) are going full blast and all's well. All you Americans when you come here for your long weekend you're going to be able to ride out into the village not officially maybe but pop under the wire and you'll get there. Remember you read it here first!
Just a remider people, it's still only November! Here we're talking about meters of snow and when will we be able to ride into the village and it hasn't even gone past American Thanksgiving yet.
The freezing level has gone up a bit too high for comfort, it passed Olympic station that is. Yesterday was the big day, the snow was gorgeous up there and we where able to ride to Oly Station at the end of the day. More snow is falling today but it's raining at lower altitudes and I would hate to lose the ride out to Oly now that we got it this early.
Still on track for an early opening guys. 85cm sofar at Pig Alley with more in the forecast. We're expecting snow later today and wouldn't you know it the first flakes are falling as I write this.
It's unofficial guys. We're opening Saturday October the18th. It's dumping again as we speak and it looks good for a meter plus base up there when the time comes.
All ridy then. Mister I-am-going-dump-on-you-big-time is over head doing what he promised. I just cleared half a foot of the white stuff off of the B&B driveway and it feels like there is going to be an other foot before the day is out. Can't see the mountains today but trust me it's snowing up there too. The weather forecast? Sunday snow, Monday snow, Tuesday snow. Bring it on!!
Ok so we had this Pineapple Express pass over us lifting the freezing level well above the tops of the mountains with rain. We're back to normal now, it snowed big time overnight plus they are making more as we speak. We also have a big storm moving in this weekend coming from Alaska this time it should bring a lot more snow. Early opening? I don't know, we'll see.
Oh Yeah, it has arrived or rather it is arriving as we speak. Snow on the valley floor! I don't think it going to last down here in the vill but higher up it should all be good. Exactly three weeks to go 'till opening day!
Ok guys, it has began. The first of a series of Pacific disturbances passed through last night dumping a few inches in the Alpine and around the lodges. There is more on the way although the temperature may not always cooperate.
What do you know there is actually some snow in the high alpine. This might very well be the stuff you'll be riding on when you get here, then again it may melt off before the serious winter storms start dumping.
Nothing much to report weather wise except to say that a cold front is on the way it's just that, well. Last weekend was Canadian Thanksgiving which around here means the downhill mountain bike park closes and the Turkey sale (cheap gear from last year) is on sale. It also means summer is over and we'll all be walking around with our thumbs up our asses until the snow starts to fall. You listening Ullr!?
It's Here! Today is actually the second day it's snowing in the Alpine. Let's be serious people this is not going to last but hey, it's a good start to the season. +++++++++2006 - 2007 season starts here +++++++++++++
Turns out I had to be in the Big Smoke (Vancouver) for a while but we had an epic April with a 48cm week starting April 13th. Snow all the way down in the village and powder runs in the Alpine! Life was good. Right now we have an serious base and awesome spring weather. Ski-out into the village is still on but for how long is up to the weather gods.
Freshies galore, visibility a-1 anything else we can do for you? You're welcome.
So like, I was away for a week or so but hey! Spring is here and the riding is easy. We had several dumps this week ending with this last 24 cm one. Check out the base! This season is going to last. Meanwhile I am going to ride some pow in the sun.
Flurries bringing new snow, snow a little sticky on the lower slopes, good conditions especially higher up.
Clear skies, a day at the beach! Lots of powder stashes all over the mountain. Want to know where? Send for the secret powder map, only $29.99 while stocks last.
An excellent clear day with plenty of fresh (we got 25 cm over the previous 48 hours). Visibilty is great the groomed runs excellent and the powder stashes deep. Be here!
45 cm in the last two days, this can't be bad! There is more (much) snow in the forecast. If you can't be here I feel your pain.
Snow from now until Wednesday. Meanwhile we've got machine groomed softpack with pow stashes hidden in the secret places.
A day at the beach, snow coming in the afternoon? We'll see |
