Centimeters?? What the..!

      1cm = .39 inch
      10cm = 3.9 inch
      30.5 cm = 1 foot
      100cm = 1 meter
      1 meter = 3.24 feet or slighty
       more than a yard.

Celsius Explained.
There is still one nation left in this world where the Fahrenheit scale is used to measure temperature. You know who you are. Here is a quick Celsius refresher. Water freezes at 0c therefore anything between -1c and -10c is good for snow while still comfortable for people. As far as aprés in the village is concerned people will sit outside on the patios at about 5c. Yes I know, people have been known to sit outside at
-10c but those are the ones feeling no pain.

West Coast Weather

Most of our weather comes from the Pacific Ocean. When it hits us from the South West it comes more or less from the direction of Hawaii. It usually means warm air carrying lots of water we call those systems the Pineapple Express. Sometimes these systems go crazy bringing floodlevel amounts of rain those systems are said to carry a Tropical Punch. Nothing wrong with Hawaii of course but being in the snow business we like our weather systems to come from Alaska.

We're going to have make this 6 cm last, it's going to be clear and sunny well into the new year. Bring your camera and..(something you don't see me write very often in January).. your sunscreen.

Today was very much like yesterday. The final count on yesterday's and last night's snow was 6 cm plus today we had some snow again. We needs loads more but it's definitely looking like Christmas out here and only 5 days late! We're not expecting any more major snow until at least next year.

We had a snowy day but it never dumped so at most we got a couple of cm. (the official report from the weather station will tell us more tomorrow). We may get some more snow overnight, keep'm crossed.

No fresh snow today but they are making it by the buckets on the lower runs. Riding into the village is actually getting to be kind of fun. Snow's still coming tomorrow but not as much as first promised. We'll see.

We're back in business people Santa is been good to Whistler. We got fresh snow and much more is on the way today and tonight. After that there's more to come on Wednesday. I think we're in for an excellent new year.

3200 meters! That's how high the freezing level is going to go, enjoy. Anyway it's going to drop on Friday and we've been promised some snow as well, stay tuned.

Believe me, you don't want to know. Well if you insist. Notice the temperature in the valley? 3c! That means no snowguns on the lower slopes where they are needed the most. The good news is conditions are good higher up and if you bring your camera there is some excellent shooting to be had.

I a sorry to inform you guys but so far this season SUCKS! It finally cools down but not a drop of snow in the forecast and guess what's forecast for Thursday (Dec23) Freezing Level At 2600M!!! That's like 300 meters higher then the Peak! Let's just say I am mildly dissapointed here.

No news from the western front. The weather still sucks and will continue doing so untill Monday when colder conditions will return. After that its' anyone guess but at least they will be able to make snow on the lower runs for a day or so.

Dec. 16 '04 09:00 AM Overcast UnltdVis. Wind SW 15 k/h

Basically we're stuck in this holding pattern of too warm weather with (luckily) not much precip. Plenty snow on top but the bottom run is getting thin and it isn't cold enough for the mountainmen to turn the snowguns on. Things will change after the weekend. Have I ever lied to you?

Stay above mid-station and you'll be alright. The bottom runs are getting rain but higher up there is big snow. It's going to stay unseasonably warm for rest of the week because the high pressure area from hell is stuck off the coasts of California and Oregon.

Well that sucked pretty bad. After the rain on Friday came a coldfront which froze up Friday's mess quite nicely. We were basically sliding on a skating ring this past weekend. Fresh snow's expected this Tuesday. Let's keep 'm crossed.

We've survived the warm weather bubble, the base is packed down to 115cm which is not altogether bad but we won't see any fresh until Monday so it's all up to the groomers this weekend.

Everybody! Keep y'r fingers crossed! It's zero c or above from the village to the peak. We can survive this people but what we don't want right now is precip because that would mean rain from top to bottom. Colder air is on it's way.

Kinda ugly down here in the valley right now but that's because that storm we've been promised is about to hit. It brought slightly warmer air as well so the freezing level sits at about 1000m (the village is a 675m). According to the man we'll have snow off and on from now until next Tuesday. That can't be bad!

We got a bit more snow overnight so the total is now 9 cm. It's not enough of a dump to call today a powder day, the only reason I'm writing this sentence is because I wanted to use the words powder day. I'm hoping it'll get me good snow karma. Peace out.

We had a nice top to bottom dump today. We may get some more overnight. It's also cold enough for the mountainmen to be making snow. Add it all up and we'll be riding down to midstation Tomorrow or Wednesday and down into the village by next week.

It looks like a winter wonderland out there with the trees all white but it was only a trace of snow that we got overnight. Enough to color the trees but not enough to add much to the base. The temp is right for making snow though so every gun is blasting. Right now it's downloading from the top of Whistler Mountain at the end of the day but they should be able to lay a decent base on Olympic in a day or to so we can slide to Olympic Station.

The bad news? We had the incredible shrinking snowbase happening here. The good news? It's snowing right now top to bottom plus it's plenty cold enough for the mountainmen to be making more. The forecast is for continuing flurries throughout the weekend. Cheers!

So like, the day kinda sucked. Lot's of precip but it was too warm. We had snow on the very top but as you got further down it got to be wet snow and then rain. Tomorrow is official opening day and Whistler Mountain should be nice and fresh as oppsoed to Blackcomb which is kinda skied out by now. That's a hint, take it or leave it.

Whistler and Blackcomb mountains received about a meter of snow over the first half of November plus they've been making the stuff to fill up the occasional bald spot. Tomorrow is locals opening day. Yeah, they use us to iron out the new season bugs in the system and train the new staff, in other words we can't complain if the lift gets stuck for an hour with us on it. Nevertheless I feel I must partake, do you ever have that feeling?

It's looking good people. We had a clear day and the mountains looked good enough to eat. It's cold and getting colder plus we've got a major storm coming in off of the Pacific carrying a load. We may wake up to snow on the valley floor tomorrow. Stay tuned.

The hope for an early opening on Peak to Valley snow has faded. Right now the freezing level is at 3000 M (That's about 800 M more than we've got) It won't come down until Sunday at the earliest. Official opening is now two weeks away (Nov 25) and a lot can happen but the soft opening is next Saturday (Nov 20) which doesn't give us much time.

With exactly one month to go until official opening day we've got some serious snow falling up in the Alpine. There's talk of 10-15cm today, more tonight and a big storm at the end of the week. The storm is coming from the North West, it doesn't get much better then that.

Alright so this is the last day of summer 2004. No worries we've got snow in the alpine already, as far as I am concerned forget about fall let's just roll right into winter. About that snow, it fell over the last week or so but only now can you see it from the village because the cloud cover has lifted. Looking good, you can even see snow on the upper runs on Blackcomb!
