Whistler Resort Feb.28 1999 New snow 32 to 430 cm No report to speak of because yours truly went skiing *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.27 1999 New snow 10 cm to 422 cm Yesterday was a corker. No doubt about it. Today it's snowing as I write this which always cuts down on the visibility. Never mind, every 10 cm adds an other day of extreme spring skiing to the season. I can't wait. If you still have holidays left start thinking early April. You can't go wrong! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.26 1999 New snow 5 cm to 435 cm Hmmm? What happened to this day anyway?? Like Kermit says "times fun when your having flies". *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.25 1999 New snow 28 cm to 430 cm. As promised, for those of you who still use 19th century measuring units. How much is 4 Meters anyway? Picture this. You're standing on the ground. Your brother Daryll is standing on your shoulders, your other brother Daryll is standing on his. As it turns out your other brother Daryll is standing quite comfortably in the snow up to his knees.... Now you know. (With apologies to Bob Newhart) *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.24 1999 New snow 45 cm to 410 cm. WOW!! Write this one down! FEB 24 1999. I just finished digging a path from the garage to the roadway in order to get the Renoir's Winter Garden shuttle jeep out on the road. Clearing the driveway? Hah! Let's first have the municipal snowplow shove everything from the road on to my driveway then I'll worry about shoving it back. Tomorrow I'll explain how much 4 meters actually is. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.23 1999 New snow 5 cm to 376 cm Snow AND sunshine! Quick get over here while it lasts. Has anybody ever seen a snowbow (as opposed to a rainbow)? Does it have a pot of powder at the end of it? If the wind stays down it should be an excellent day today. If you are planning to be here in March good on you. If you're still trying to book something, good luck! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.22 1999 New snow 7 cm to 374 cm Nevermind flurries, try solid snowfall it looks like we're back on the path of righteousness (or 4 meters whatever comes first). By the way, here is a tip. On windy days the gondola's may be slowed down. Don't start the day in the village, the line-ups will be long. Go to Blackcomb base or Whistler creek. Once you are up the hill it's not a problem ofcourse. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.21 1999 New snow 6 cm to 370 Wind and flurries today. Temperature is good and there is snow aplenty but access to the peaks may be limited during the day. For those of you who have noticed. Yes eventhough we've had snow over the last several days the pack has been settling and we're now at 370cm. I'am still hoping for the big 4M. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.20 1999 New snow 3 cm to 375 More gorgeousness. Today is going to be one of those days. I can tell eventhough the signs are subtle. We've got an unending blue sky, tons of snow and huge mountains with enormous ski runs. As I said, subtle signs but being the sensitive soul that I am I read'm like an open book. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.19 1999 New snow 7 cm to 380 This is as it should be. Snow at night clear skies during the day. OK, the skies are not exactly clear right now but the clouds are high and broken and there is nothing falling out of them. As always these things are subject to change. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.18 1999 New snow 5 cm to 381 cm Same as yesterday, the clouds are a little higher and the sun seems to be trying harder. The Renoir's Winter Garden guests report that skiing was excellent. The prognosis for today? More excellence! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.17 1999 New snow 21 cm to 383 cm A bit of sun is trying to poke through it's mainly snowing though. It feels strangely springy don't know exactly what it is. The weather says winter but the days are getting longer I guess spring skiing can't be far off. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.16 1999 New snow 16 cm to 380 cm Looks like we're back in the snow business. It's 0c down here which means your last run of the day, the one into the village, is going to be on crud but up high its back to the usual excellentness. The wind is up but staying on the right side of the mountain should fix that. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.15 1999 New snow 0 cm to 371 cm 15th of the month. Time to pay some bills, am I worried? Nahhh.. All I have to do is look out my window and observe the country laid out vertically in front of my eyes. Blue skies with some very high very white clouds, white hills with skiruns that don't quit. Careful, I'll be waxing lyrical here before you know it. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.14 1999 New snow 2 cm to 372 cm Spectacular! Not a cloud in the sky, -11c, tons of snow. I am speechless. Happy Valentine day. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.13 1999 New snow 20 cm to 373 cm The good news is, we've got lots'a snow. The bad news is, we've got lots'a snow. If you are going come here to ski in the next 3 months (and I know a lot of you are) the news is extremely good. This year's snowfall has broken records all over the place. If on the other hand you expect to be here during the inevitable Big Meltdown bring you boots. There is a lot of water up in them thar hills. Let's hope it won't all come down in one swell foop. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.12 1999 New snow 5 cm to 358 cm It's still snowing very lightly but continuous. As you can see the snow packed down to an official 358 cm. At this rate we'll never make the 4 meter mark, how about we all ski very lightly around the weather station until we reach the big 4M? It is windy up there by the way but as long as you stay just below the peaks you should be cool. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.11 1999 New snow 2 cm to 375 cm Snow's back, the Renoir's Winter Garden picnic table is now completely buried. Onwards and upwards comrades give me 4 meters or give me uhhh.., OK let's give this some careful thought. How about "give me 4 meters or give me beer"? Yes, I think I can live with that. What say you? *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.10 1999 New snow 4 cm to 375 cm A strange day today. Sunshine one minute, cloudy the next. Clouds are high up and nothing is falling out of them as yet. All in all I should'a been up there. Why am I not (up there)? You may well ask. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.09 1999 New snow 16 cm to 375 cm This is definitely one for the books. One of these days I'll spring for a digital camera and start adding pics to the snow report. We've got clear blue skies, pow up to your eyeballs, trees looking like snow waterfalls and a winter wonderland feel to the place that just won't quit. This is what Whistler is all about. As always, you're not here and I feel your pain. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.08 1999 New snow 8 cm 368 cm I guess the sharp eyed amongst you have noticed the link to the Whistler Mountain Cam on the top left. I have to warn you, the pictures make things look darker then they really are. The view is towards the roundhouse lodge on Whistler mountain. If you were a skier looking in the same direction Harmony would be to your right and the Peak to your left. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.07 1999 New snow 26 cm to 365 cm Right! All you 'on the ball' types, two guesses. What is it doing outside my window as I write this? Here is a hint. System #8 or #9 (I've lost count) is overhead. We have precip and the temp down here is 0c...? Are we going to have a 4 meter base this season? I don't think that is question any longer. The actual question is are we going to get up to 5 meters? Keep in touch. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.06 1999 New snow 41cm to 357 cm It is snowing, it has been snowing, it is going to be snowing. (And I'am having Deja Vu all over again.) We had a bit of a melt down here on the valley floor this morning but the temp has dropped again and things are as they should be. No response yet to my kind offer to ship a few tons of the stuff your way! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.05 1999 New snow 4 cm to 333 cm So, what were we talking about? Oh yeah, snow! Well, let me tell you something, system #7 is overhead as we speak (in a manner of speaking) and it's bringing more of it. Are any of you readers out there into white water rafting? I tell you there is going to be some major runoff this spring and summer. If you can't make it here in time to ride the snow you can still come and ride it after it's melted. He' if you time it right you can do both. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.04 1999 New snow 18 cm to 337 cm Yo! I am running out superlatives here. We've got a high pressure ridge overhead. Some high scattered clouds, no wind to speak of and.. well you knew about the snow didn't you. The man says it isn't going to last. There is more snow on the way. Anybody in the market for couple of tons? *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.03 1999 New snow 8 cm to 342 cm (it's settling) Blame the Alaska Jetstream. The whole south west (north west if you're 'mercan) is being beaten up by one storm after the next. I think the one going overhead right now is #5 but it could be #6. Yep I did go up top yesterday. In the morning the snow was falling horizontally if you know what I mean but in the afternoon it cleared up between storms #5 and #6. Conditions were unmatched. There is so much snow I am sure some of it will still be around next season. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.02 1999 New snow 15 cm to 342 cm This report is written fairly early in the morning. Today I'll be checking conditions on top for myself. I know, it's a dirty job but someone has to do it. Where would The Snow Report be without such dedication? Right now it's not snowing (yes, after two solid days of snow that's news) there's some gusty wind and low clouds. We shall see. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Feb.01 1999 New snow 8 cm to 342 cm 8 cm. Add that to yesterday's fall and you end up with 37 cm (that's a foot in archaic) in the last two days. Enough already? Forget it, it's snowing as I write this (8:30 Monday morning). If this keeps up we'll pass the 4 meter mark before the season is out. Enough to cover those pesky boulders up above the treeline and turn them into big air ramps. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.30 1999 New snow 42 cm to 350 cm Write this one down. Jan 30th! A bear of a day. Remember we had 65cm two days ago? Add to that 42 cm more and you've got..., well, to be frank you've got to much snow! Yesterday they were selling tickets at half price because only half the runs where open. Now that the groomers have been at for two nights and a day conditions are unmatched. Today the skies are clear and the pow well, need I say more. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.29 1999 New snow 65 cm to 330 cm Two Feet! (I'm so flabbergasted I start to talk in 19th century measuring units again). Ok lets try again. 65 CM! You should'a been here. The world looks so.., so innocent with a fresh blanket of snow covering everything. Mind you. Check the temp! Yep, overnight the rains came, at least down here in the valley. Up there? Still more snow. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.28 1999 New snow 6 cm to 270 cm So there you have it 6 cm on top of the 9 cm that fell yesterday throughout the day. It actually feels as if these numbers are low. I guess if you have to shovel the stuff or even just drive through it weighs heavier on your soul. (or words to that effect) *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.27 1999 New snow 1 cm to 260 cm Ah! You noticed. No report yesterday. OK, here it is. Clear, cool, gorgeous. As for today it's snowing, it has been snowing, it looks as if it is going to be snowing for a long time. Did someone say powder? Try and hit the slopes tomorrow morning. Early! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.25 1999 New snow 3 cm to 275 cm This is what we expect in Whistler at this time of the year. Below 0c in the valley so that we can all ski down into the village for our drinkies at the end of a busy day at mogul bashing. Minus 6 to 12 on top in order that we may laugh heartily at all those Rocky Mountain skiers who are freezing their brass ones of while scraping the bottoms of their slats grinding down 50 cm of man made. And they said I didn't know how to gloat! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.24 1999 New snow 0 cm to 275 I can see the tops from down here but there is high cloud rolling in. The mountains forecast sunny skies but don't believe'um. There is going to be sunny breaks but mostly it will be high clouds, low temperatures, unlimited visibilty and an all 'round solid day. Have I ever been wrong? *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.23 1999 New snow 6 cm to 275 cm Unlimited vistas, those are todays keywords. Not a cloud in the sky, brilliant, bright, dazzling. Anyone care to come up with some more words to describe today. What? It's socked in, raining, wet and ugly where you are right now? Only one thing for it isn't there. Make sure you say 'hi' when you get here. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.22 1999 New snow 6 cm to 276 cm You Guys! Sorry, it looks like I missed a day again but then the thing is that we have a system hanging around here and things don't change much from day to day. I look outside and guess what. There something falling out of the sky (again) all white and fluffy and stuff. Look..., if you feel it's something you would like to play with haul your butts out here, there is plenty to go 'round. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.20 1999 New snow 7 cm to 280 cm Did someone say snow? How about 130 brand spanking new centimeters over the last week. I saw a guy on a board run out of steam yesterday so he stepped of his board and started wading. He took two steps, probably stepped of a rock and promptly sank in up to his neck. He had to basically swim to the groomed area. Yep, we've got snow. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.19 1999 New snow 24 cm to 285 cm Like the man said. Check out the pow! Ever the diligent reporter I went up today to have a look for myself so this report is Not written from the bottom up. Me, I am not a powder hound but I've been know to to take a few sidetrips into the soft stuff. Let me tell you, there is plenty of it and it is soft. (I should know after a couple of faceplants) *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.18 1999 New snow 19 cm Have you ever know me to be wrong? I thought so. I said snow and snow is what we delivered. It's cloudy, it's also still snowing (strange how those two go together.) I would say, if you're riding a single slat this is your day! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.17 1999 New snow trace to 264 It's coming down! (It's also late in the aft. so today's skiers will have missed it.) Tomorrow's report will report more than a trace I can assure you. Visibility has been a bit soupy all day what with low clouds rolling in and out but the temp is good and the snow is deep. It's a winter wonderland all 'round. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.16 1999 New snow 10 cm to 265 cm Oh yeah! This is it, this is what we've been waiting for. The town is filled to the rafters, the snow is deep, the sun is peeking through. The Renoir's Winter Garden roof is dripping but this time it's because the sun is shining right onto the overnight snowfall instead of... well, you know. Say no more. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.15 1999 New snow trace to 258 cm There's more snow in the forecast, I think I can see it coming in as I write this. The avalanche guns are going and people are waxing their slat(s). All's well in the resort of Whistler. I do believe you should be here don't you? *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.14 1999 New snow 42 cm to 257 cm What can I tell you? You wanted snow, we got you snow. Even down here in the valley we had to clear almost a foot off the Renoir's Winter Garden driveway. It was gone fairly fast down here because the temperature went and did the yoyo thing again but still. Even for the most rabid of powderhounds 42cm ain't nothing to sneeze at... Sorry Ray! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.13 1999 New snow trace to 223 cm The cold's back. Good. I was getting tired of listening to water dripping of the Renoir's Winter Garden Roof. It's the sound of spring, nothing wrong with it except.. It Ain't Spring Yet. It looks gorgeous out there, crisp, clear and unless it changes in the next few hours the sun will soften up snow to make for a top of the line day. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.12 1999 New snow 4 cm to 225 cm Renoir's Winter Garden guests report. Beautiful but! You had to pick your spots. Most first time visitors don't really realize how big these mountains are. You can have disgusting cold and wet conditions at midstation on Blackcomb while the sun shines on the west side of Whistler mountain. (and vice versa ofcourse). The way to find out is to ask the ambassadors who will have gotten the latest reports from the groomers and other mountain staff. By the way, you'll have noticed it's getting a little cooler. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.11 1999 New snow 18 cm to 225 cm Well there you have it 18 cm (divide by three if you are metrically challenged). Mind you I am not sure how that came to be, eyewitnesses report being soaked to the bone or worse to the wallet. Renoir's Winter Garden guests and webreaders keep asking me if this this normal. Let me put your minds to rest. NO This is not normal. This is disgusting, it's too warm, it's not right, there ought to be a law! *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.10 1999 New snow 1 cm to 210 cm Well the hearty guffaw obviously worked. Mother nature went off in a huff and came back with a nice dump. It's a little too close to 0c down here in the valley but we've had a nice layer. Check tomorrow's report to see how much the mountains actually accumulated. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.09 1999 New snow 2 cm to 210 cm Pardon me while I guffaw at Mother Nature. We've been snowdancing like crazy and what do we get? A Dump, A Heap, A Pile, A Load? Nah. We got a trace, a whiz, a whimper. Mind you it's still snaining as we speak. Snaining? That's when you look out the window and one moment you've got snow the next it's rain two minutes later it's snow again. Ofcourse that's only down here at the valley floor. Up there it's snow all the way. What am I doing down here? *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.08 1999 New snow .03cm to 207 cm The Renoir's Winter Garden guests report. Gorgeous! As soon as you got above midstation it was blue skies all the way. We're all hoping for a nice big dump ofcourse but failing that this is the next best thing. Weatherman says. Snow! (possibly rain in the valley) *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.07 1999 New snow 2 cm to 210 cm Some of you wrote to me. Me, you'ld say, I am coming up this weekend! What's with all that warm weather and rain? Be cool! When I write, I write what I see - In The Valley! You should always substract about 4-7 degrees from the valley temperature. If its 0 and rain down here we'll have snow up there and it looks as if we are going to have plenty of it before the weekend. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.06 1999 New snow 0 cm to 210 cm So far the clouds have stayed way up there. Since the temperature is good they've been making snow where necessary and grooming the 2 meters that are there already. Still, it's time for a new dump. Time for a snowdance methinks. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.04 1999 New snow 0 cm to 221 cm High overcast today and that means just what it says, it's overcast, cloudy, grey, no sun but... It's way up there so visibility is excellent, temperature is good and there is a promise of fresh snow in the air. Skiing is great on softened machine groomed snow. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.03 1999 New snow 0 cm to 222 cm An other gorgeous one. What with this inversion (see temperature) going on we've got warm blue skies, sun, snow, mountains. Need I say more. Oh, that snow I promised two days ago? It's in the mail. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Jan.01 1999 New snow 0 cm to 222 cm HAPPY NEW YEAR! She's been a beaut. Clean, clear, not to cold. A perfect start to this last year of the century. Clouds are moving in. We'll be working on the next meter for you folks planning to be here later on in January, February or beyond. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.30 1998 New snow 16 cm to 229 cm The yoyo effect is in full swing down here in Whistler. You can see the freezing level bob up and down the slopes. Right now its above zero down here in the valley. If you wait 1 hour it may be below freezing again. Skiing is excellent on top. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.28 1998 New snow 25 cm to 218 cm Fowle, foul, fowl. I don't really care how you spell it. Down here in the valley it was just that. I cleared up a bit towards the late aft. The problem is it's too warm so we had Rain!? Weird! Anyway it was fine on top what with the 25 new centimeters to play with and all. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.27 1998 New snow 6 cm to 198 cm As I look out the Renoir's Winter Garden window I note that it has been snowing all night long, that it is snowing at the moment and that it looks as though it's going to keep on snowing until next year. Sorry northern Colorado. Tough break Canadian Rockies. I know you would all like some this lovely white stuff. I feel your pain. I really do. *=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.26 1998 New snow 9 cm to 196 cm Todays word is "hovering" as in "the temperature is hovering around 0 degrees c down here in the valley". It's snowing lightly on and off. The visibilty while not briliant is reasonable so let me ask you this. If you're not here or planning to be here soon what exactly are you up too? =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.25 New snow 2 cm to 187 cm MERRY CHRISTMAS Plenty snow. Good temperature. Vis could be better. All in all an excellent Christmas day 1998 I'ld say. Took a stroll around the village last night, pure magic. Disney land is nothing compared to real snow and the whole place lit up like one giant Christmas tree. Before I start waxing poetic I better go and wax the skies. Have a merry one. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.24 New snow 11 cm 186 cm Well, the Jolly One has taken pity and dumped a large load of snow down our collective chimney. The Renoir's Winter Garden roof sports about 20cm of the stuff. Hold on... I'm about to burst forth in song.! It's beginning to look at lot like Christmas. La lala la la. Etc. Oh by the way. You folks in Oz! Have a Merry Christmas. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.23 1998 New snow 0 cm to 181 cm It looks as though the Chilled One (see previous) is finally being shoved out by one of our Pacific friends. Lets be brutally honest here. Having a Starbucks LoFat DeCaf Extreme on the patio at -15c just does not cut it even when you are wearing your gortex. I know that those hearty folks east of here in the rockies and beyond think anything above -20c (12f) is for whimps but you know what? Watching you brewski freeze over while you're thawing out your toes gets to be bore. I find. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.22 1998 New snow 0 cm to 181 cm The Crisp One (an artic cold front for the late arrivals) is putting up a fight. There are some high clouds trying to move in. I am sure there is a Pacific system knocking on the door. We've been promised one for a few days now. Mind you with that slight inversion going on (warmer on top then in the valley) skiing is absolutely gorge right now. Who needs more snow? =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.21 1998 New snow 1 cm to 181 The Artic One is still with us. Some peewee Pacific system snuck in last night and left a dusting but it was kicked out in the morning. All in all a perfect day. Clear as a bell cold but no wind so some decent layers will do you fine and the snowblowers have been blasting for 72 hours straight so skiing top to bottom is back. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.19 1998 New snow 0 cm to 184 cm The keyword for today is the same as yesterday (hmm.., what happened to yesterday anyway?) it's Artic Front. Steel blue skies, visibilty for miles in all directions but don't forget your woolies and ofcourse. Bring your camera. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.17 1998 New snow 1 cm to 195 cm It looked gorgeous this morning, blue skies, visibilty unlimited, just like spring. Clouds and snow moving in right now, light snow at the moment but it smells like there is more to come. Excellent! =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.16 1998 New snow 1 cm to 195 cm We had a trace overnight but not enough to keep us above the 2 meter (6+ feet for the metrically challenged) mark. Sometimes people ask me. Me, they say how can you have 218 cm one day and 195 cm the next? Well.. its like this. December is party season in Whistler and we need icecubes for our drinkies and we figure nobody is going to miss a few centimeters here and there. Now you know. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.15 1998 New snow 12 cm to 218 cm Back to Normal! 10cm on the Renoir's Winter Garden roof. That's more like it. One does so hate to give up one's White Christmas. Doesn't one? Anyway, because of the weird weather it got a little icy up there. This new dump will take care of that nicely thank you very much. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.14 1998 New snow 13cm to 206 cm Spring Has Sprung. A little too early mind you. Yesterday was unseasonally warm and today eventhough the temperature has dropped it feels like spring because it is a nice clear day and yesterday's melt has left the trees (and the roofs) in the valley without their usual snowcover. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.12 1998 New snow 17cm to 183 cm Ratty, Awful, Inclement, Nasty. A bonus to those who can pick out the secret word. I hope everyone appreciates what we go through here during the pre-season in order to make sure that all you powderhounds out there can ski in powder up to your butts a couple'o weeks from now. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.11 1998 New snow 1 cm to 178 cm You're right I missed a day. Guess where I was. It started out bad and then, in the afternoon (after all the woozes left) it turned gorgeous, during the night and early morning we scored about 12 cm. As for today it started out clear, now we've got some clouds and percip moving in. Got keep building that snowpack. By the way skiing into the village is not a problem any more. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.09 1998 New snow 2cm to 176 cm Let's be brutally clear about this. Today was a waste as far as adding to the snowpack is concerned. We had the clouds, we had the temperatures, we had the wind. What we did not have was snowfall. All in all no change from yesterday. The skiing was good though. Not great, not excellent but solid. One of the joys of early season skiing is... No Crowds. No Lineups =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.08 1998 New snow 3 cm to 178 cm As you noticed there was no report yesterday. Sorry about that but I was just too depressed about the race that never was. Also we had two storms coming through dumping about 20 cm right into the valley keeping me busy clearing off the driveway twice. It's also strange that the mountains are reporting a lot less, maybe the wind blew it all into the valley. For those of you who know Whisler you can now ski down to the parking lot at Whistler Creek. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.06 1998 New snow 7 cm to 170 cm !!BLAM!! Well somuch for the men's downhill. Sorry guys buttuh... Might one ask how we got stuck with this race so early in the season? Oh I see the Europeans don't have any snow this early in the season and we do. Well I guess we found out the hard way. We have guaranteed snow by the end of November but it's not guaranteed racing (I.E. packed) snow and sometimes we get the occasional low cloud. Maybe that's why it's called pre-season? =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.05 1998 New snow 2 cm to 161 cm We'll, I guess I wasn't to far of the mark yesterday. To bad because I don't think the race is going to happen today either. We're expecting 10 cm today and guys bombing down a hill at 130km+ don't like powder besides the clouds are still hanging around. I've been known to be wrong but I have the sinking feeling that this is not one of those rare occasions. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.04 1998 New snow. A trace to 167 cm I don't know about that race. For those of you following the men's worldcup. It was scheduled to be run on Saturday but is was put ahead one day because there is a big Pacific system on the way. However I can't see the tops from here. They are socked in and it is snowing lightly. The race is supposed to start in 5 minutes! Check out your favorite sports channel for the full story later today. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.03 1998 New snow 3 cm to 167 cm Cool and clear today. OK I lied. Cool and sometimes clear. You'll get these excellent blue spots moving by and you can see the mountains from top to bottom the next moment they're socked in again. Excellent skiing though and he' the Winterstart festival starts tomorrow getting everybody psyched for the men's downhill. See you there. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.02 1998 New snow 15 cm to 167 cm Was at a party yesterday (yep, we've got those here too) talking to Dave. He tells me he skied down all the way! A no-no ofcourse but there you have it. He figures there is plenty snow but you'll have to jump the draining ditches because they haven't filled them yet. (He' I told you this is an UNofficial report) =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Dec.01 1998 New snow 1 cm to 166 cm It's snowing big time. I cleared a path on the Renoir's driveway went for a walk, came back after 40 minutes and the path had a 1 inch cover. We'll be skiing into the village before long if this keeps up. We've been promised 15-20 cm. I believe um. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov.30 1998 New snow 9 cm to 166 cm Well there you have it. The end of November and skiing has been going on here for two weeks. Welcome to paradise. We had a nice dump overnight. I am looking at about 10cm right here on the Renoir's Winter Garden roof. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov.29 1998 New snow 2 cm to 178 cm It's snowing very lightly right now (9:00 am) It feels like it's going to snow all day. I have been known to be wrong. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov.28 1998.. New snow 5 cm to 165 cm It's offical. This is one of the all time hottest season startups. Plenty snow and today the clouds are trying to lift off. I can see the tops peeking through occasionally. It's looking gorgeous. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov.27 1998.. New snow 9 cm to 160 cm Big fat ones this morning but turning to wet slushy stuff towards the evening. Skiing is fantastic for this time of the year by all accounts. Looks like a ripsnorting season ahead. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov.25 1998.. New Snow 25 cm to 151 cm Pretty miserable down here. The snowline has lifted about 100 feet above the village. Great snow up there plenty rain down here, very easy to get it off the driveway mind you and he' if it builds a solid base for all you future honored guest well.., nothing is to good for you. Maybe we even get a chance to ski ourselves this season. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov.23 1998.. New Snow 22 cm Well it's top to bottom now. I've got snow in the yard and it doesn't look like it's going to go anywhere until spring 1999. As far as sking into the village is concerned it's all a matter of building base from now on. Downloading is still on from midstation for a few more days but if you are coming sometime in December you'll be skiing roof to basement in one swell foop. (If English is not your first language come stay with us at Renoir's Winter Garden and I'll explain) =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov.21 1998.. snow today +15 cm Hmmm. I look outside and there is all this sorta white stuff falling out of the ski. Its all like fluffy and kinda cold. Must be about 10cm on the ground. Wonder if you could have some fun with it. I'll go play with it. I'll let you know. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov. 19 1998.. THEY'RE OPENING EARLY!! For all of you wondering if there will be snow when you get here. Blackcomb mountain has decided to open early this year. Friday Nov. 20th is the day. Conditions are marginal right now but it was snowing in the valley this morning so those conditions are getting better as we speak. Head'm Up.. Move'm Out! =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov. 17 1998.. Check it out! A lot of you have been asking me. Me, you'll write. Me, is there going to be snow when I get there? He' I'll live dangerously I'll give you a guess. Problem is, I can't see the tops from here because they are in cloud. Time to go and ask 'Those Who Kown". They tell me there is Two Meters of the stuff!! Come on down! There may not be snow in the village but there's sure to be a mess of it 'up there' =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov. 12 1998.. It's Official. We are a winter resort. Snow has arrived on the valley floor and that makes it official wouldn't you say. It's turning very slushy right now (9:00 am) but that is to be expected this time of year. Soon as the clouds clear I'll let you know what the mountains look like. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Nov. 7 1998.. We've just had some nice clear days after a some standard westcoast rain. You can see the tops today. Looks like things are firming up quite nicely up there. Hope you've booked your vacation. Late December is gone, February is going fast, my bet would be on late January. Good snow. No crowds. =*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*=*= Whistler Resort Oct. 30 1998.. Lots of snow falling but not down here yet. You can see the upper runs slowly being snowed under. Three weeks 'till opening day.
