Celsius Explained.
There is still one nation left in this world where the Fahrenheit scale is used to measure temperature. You know who you are. Here is a quick Celsius refresher. Water freezes at 0c therefore anything between -1c and -10c is good for snow while still comfortable for people. As far as aprés in the village is concerned people will sit outside on the patios at about 5c. Yes I know, people have been known to sit outside at
-10c but those are the ones feeling no pain.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Looks like we're going to start 2002 with some fresh pow. It should arrive tonight and tomorrow. I'll keep you informed.

Dec 31 '01 10:00:AM High Clouds, UnLtd Vis., LightWind
Alpine -5c Mdmtn -2c Valley -3c NewSnw 0  Base 189cm

The first of those Pacific storm fronts is knocking on the door it won't be able to get in but if we're lucky it will drop a few centimeters of snow on the doorstep.

Dec 30 '01 11:00:AM Sunny Skies, UnLtd Vis., LightWind
Alpine -1c Mdmtn -1c Valley -2c NewSnw 0  Base 192cm

We are in the grip of the Ridge Of High Pressure from hell. There are all kinds of storm systems trying to get in from the Pacific with deliveries of fresh pow but the ROHP from hell won't let them. Oh well, we've got a base, we've got groomers, we've got snowguns. There is something to be said for spring skiing in December.

Dec 29 '01 11:00:AM Sun & Cloud , UnLtd Vis., LightWind
Alpine -4c Mdmtn -1c Valley -2c NewSnw 0  Base 194cm

Good conditions, lots of people, the town is hopping.

Dec 28 '01 11:00:AM Cloudy, Var Vis., LightWind
Alpine -4c Mdmtn 1c Valley -2c NwSnw trace  Base 197cm

We have a few candy assed systems lining up out over the Pacific but we're not expecting much in the way of snow over the weekend.

Dec 27 '01 11:00:AM Clear, UnLimited Vis., 30K Wind
Alpine -1c Mdmtn -1c Valley -4c NwSnw 0cm  Base 196cm

We have a system coming in from the Pacific but it won't bring much snow. Mayby 10cm if we're lucky. They've been making snow so we have nicely groomed runs on hardpack but all the pow has been skied out by now.

Dec 26 '01 10:00:AM Clear, UnLimited Vis., Some Wind
Alpine -5c Mdmtn -3c Valley -8c NwSnw 0cm  Base 200cm

It's cooling off again, good thing too there is a weak front coming this way with a bit of precip. A bit of pow on top of this excellent base would be excellent.

Dec 25 '01 11:00:AM Clear, UnLimited Vis., Light Wind
Alpine 1c Mdmtn -3c Valley -6c NwSnw 0cm  Base 206cm

Welcome to an inverted Christmas. Go into the alpine and work on your tan, stay down here and make sure you've got a hot toddy close at hand. I hope you're all having an excellent one.

Dec 24 '01 11:00:AM light clouds, UnLimited Vis., Light Wind
Alpine -2c Mdmtn -4c Valley -7c NwSnw 0cm  Base 209cm

The warmer weather is here but only on top. We've got a real life inversion. It's weird, sweating on top and getting colder as you slide down the hill, like going into the basement.

Dec 23 '01 11:00:AM Clear, UnLimited Vis., Light Wind
Alpine -7c Mdmtn -4c Valley -6c NwSnw 0cm  Base 220cm

Right people. A ridge of high pressure is sitting overhead and it's going to stick around until at after Christmas. It's warming up already and it will get warmer. Leave you fleece at home and come on up. Who needs Floridar?

Dec 22 '01 10:00:AM Clear, UnLimited Vis., Light Wind
Alpine -8c Mdmtn -7c Valley -9c NwSnw 0cm  Base 225cm

An other clear and crispy one but clouds are supposed to be coming this way. Early season skiing and riding is the best it has been for years.

Dec 21 '01 9:00:AM Clear, UnLimited Vis., Light Wind
Alpine -9c Mdmtn -9c Valley -12c NwSnw 0cm  Base 231cm

Crispy Cold! We may get a bit of snow over the weekend but the Christmas week looks like its going to be warm and dry.

Dec 20 '01 9:00:AM Clear, UnLimited Vis., Light Wind
Alpine -9c Mdmtn -10c Valley -9c NwSnw 0cm  Base 235cm

Day at the beach! Sunshine and snow, anything else you need? This is shaping up as one of the best Christmas seasons yet.

Dec 19 '01 9:00:AM Cloudy, Variable Vis., Light Wind
Alpine -13c Mdmtn -7c Valley -4c NwSnw 31cm  Base 247cm

31 cm! I am in a hurry. Gotta go check it out. Later!

Dec 18 '01 9:00:AM Snowing, Variable Vis., Strong Wind
Alpine -10c Mdmtn -6c Valley -4c NwSnw 9cm  Base 235cm

Looks like an other dump day in the making. It fells like this one is good for a foot.I'll keep you informed.

Dec 17 '01 11:00:AM Snowing Lightly, Ltd Vis., Windy
Alpine -5c Mdmtn -2c Valley -1c NwSnw 56cm  Base 244cm

The freezing level is back down into the valley and we're building base. More snow's a'coming, 3 meters by Christmas seems doable.

Dec 16 '01 11:00:AM Raining Lightly, Variable Vis. 30K Wind
Alpine -5c Mdmtn -2c Valley 1c NwSnw 62cm  Base 225cm

The two meters are here, anyone for 3 by Christmas? The temp has shot up so it's raining lightly down here but it should get down to zero again tonight. Awesome amounts of pow higher up, winds could be a bummer. Bring your fat skies.

Dec 15 '01 09:00:AM Snowing Lightly, Variable Vis. Big Wind
Alpine -11c Mdmtn -6c Valley -2c NwSnw 5cm  Base 177cm

The next system has arrived, if the man is to be believed this is going to be an 85cm weekend, we'll see.

Dec 14 '01 01:00:PM Cloudy, Ltd Vis. 30kWinds
Alpine -10c Mdmtn -6c Valley -1c NwSnw 28cm  Base 183cm

Its clearing up at the moment, tons of pow up there. It looks like a quiet weekend, some snow, a bit warmer, winds could be a bother. Any bets on 2 meters before Christmas??

Dec 13 '01 08:00:AM Broken Clouds, Variable Vis.30kWinds
Alpine -6c Mdmtn -2c Valley -1c NwSnw 19cm  Base 165cm

The dump came, I saw the dump and the dump was good. Major Pow people. Lets get those butts up here!

Dec 12 '01 05:00:PM Snowing, Limited Vis. Light Winds
Alpine -6c Mdmtn -5c Valley -1c NwSnw 14cm  Base 152cm

It's dumping. It's going to keep on dumping. Tomorrow should see some clearing. I'll keep you informed.

Dec 11 '01 12:PM Clear, unlimited Vis. Light Winds
Alpine -9c Mdmtn -5c Valley 0c NwSnw 2cm  Base 157cm

A day at the beach right now but more snow's a'coming. If this early season is anything to go by we are heading into a most excellent season. Get down here or weep.

Dec 10 '01 9:00AM Overcast, variable Vis. Light Winds
Alpine -11c Mdmtn -5c Valley -1c NwSnw 9cm  Base 162cm

An other 10cm, gotta go and check it out. Last year around this time we barely had a meter. Clouds look heavy but should clear up a bit this aft.

Dec 09 '01 10:00AM Clear-ish
Alpine -14c Mdmtn -8c Valley -4c NwSnw 39cm  Base 161cm

We got our foot, it's an awesome pow day up there today. The man says we'll get a bit more tonight.

Dec 08 '01 9:00AM Snowing Big Time
Alpine -6c Mdmtn -2c Valley -1c NewSnw 13cm  Base 139cm

Looks like we could get a foot before this is over. A good thing because the bottom runs need some cover.

Dec 06 '01 11:00AM Solid Cloud
Alpine -7c Mdmtn -4c Valley -2c NewSnw 8cm  Base 136cm

Lightly snowing down here. Feels like it could go all day.

Dec 05 '01 9:00AM Cloudy with Sunny periods
Alpine -12c Mdmtn -10c Valley -8c NwSnw 1cm  Base 136cm

It's still cold. We got 10cm yesterday plus a trace overnight. It looks like there is 10 to 15 cm coming overnight and Thursday. People are riding all the way down to the village. It's rough on your gear though. Where's the hot wax?

Dec 03 '01 9:00AM Clear as a bell.
Alpine -13c Mdmtn -11c Valley -9c NwSnw 0cm  Base 139cm

Cold. COLD! It's brass monkey time. Let's ride.

It looks like there is more snow in them thar clouds!

Nov 26 '01 1:00PM High Clouds some sunny periods
Alpine -8c Midmtn -4c Valley 1c NewSnw 1cm  Base 80cm

Nov 25 '01 2:00PM High Clouds

Alpine -9c Midmtn -5c Valley 2c NewSnw 0cm  Base 82cm

No change from yesterday. Time for a snow dance.

Nov 23 '01  11:00AM  Clear with a few clouds
Alpine -6c Midmtn -2c Valley 3c NewSnw 1cm  Base 86cm

We're going to be stuck like this for a while. Any new snow will have to come out of a snow gun for the next few days.

Nov 22 '01  4:30PM  Clear
Alpine -4c Midmtn -2c Valley 4c NewSnw 3cm  Base 85cm

A late report today 'cause..uhh well I had to go check it out for myself you know. Opening day and all that. The snow was of surprisingly good quality, enough to get around the higher chairlifts. From Blackcomb I needed to download two lifts though. We got the temperature, we need the precip. I hear it's stuck below Seattle somewhere.

Nov 21 '01  9AM  Snow/rain
Alpine -4c Midmtn -1c Valley 4c NewSnw 18cm  Base 97cm

Ok we passed the hell days, things are starting to cool off. At one point it was raining top to bottom but we also got snow. The base is intact, the snow is falling. It looks like we'll be opening with a base of a meter after all. It looks like we'll get some major dumps tonight and tomorrow. The weekend looks good with some flurries and the freezing level steadily dropping towards the village.

Nov 19 '01  10AM  Snow/rain
Alpine -1c Midmtn -1c Valley 0c NewSnw 1cm  Base 73cm

Strange temperatures, barely freezing from top to bottom, We did get a trace of snow on the ground but it's warming up so it'll be gone in an hour or so. This week is going to be só weird.

Nov 17 '01   Very Clear
Alpine -9c Midmtn -4c Valley 2c NewSnw 5cm  Base 72cm

Very cold right now but warm air is coming this way! It looks like we'll get some rain next week after all. This is starting to suck.

Nov 16 '01   Cloudy
Alpine -8c Midmtn -4c Valley 2c NewSnw 8cm  Base 67cm

This a late report (8PM). It's cold., finally. The snow guns are blasting away. We got some snow, there is cover to the bottom of Solar Coaster but not enough to ski on so No Early Opening This Year! Prognosis? It's going to stay cold over the weekend with a few flurries. They will be making snow like crazy. It'll get warm next week so any snow for opening day (Nov 22) must be made this weekend. The good news is that there is no rain in the forecast.

Nov 14 '01   Cloudy
Alpine -2c Midmtn 1c Valley 6c NewSnw 25cm  Base 60cm

Big fall overnight, it's dry now with very low cloud.

Nov 12 '01   Raining
Alpine -1c Midmtn 3c Valley 8c NewSnw 0cm  Base 60cm

It's too warm people. The outlook for the coming week? Up and down like a YoYo. Forget about opening early this Saturday.

Nov 09 '01   Raining
Alpine 1c Midmtn 5c Valley 4c NewSnw 0cm  Base 77cm

No snow guns today people. It'll clear up this afternoon. As far as the weekend is concerned? Snowlevel up and down like a yoyo, frontal systems, high pressure area, low pressure area we got it all folks.

Nov 08 '01   Clear
Alpine -5c Midmtn 4c Valley 4c NewSnw 0cm  Base 79cm

Rumor central..... Blackcomb to open Nov 17.
From the horse's mouth..... Only if there is natural snow.
The guns are going full time in the alpine but they will not use groomers to push snow to the bottom of Solar Coaster just to open early (too expensive). there is 90cm on the higher runs but again, they will not open early unless there is enough natural snow to ski to the bottom of Solar Coaster.

Nov 06 '01   Snowing
Alpine -8c Midmtn -3c Valley 1c NewSnw 5cm  Base 78cm

Snow on the valley floor! Not much and I doubt it will stay but it looks good and it means the base a few hundred meters higher up is growing. No word yet on an early opening, lots of rumors but nothing official.

Nov 05 '01   Snowing
Alpine -9c Midmtn -4c Valley 3c NewSnw 10cm  Base 80cm

It's snowing (but not sticking) down here as well. Looking Good!

Nov 04 '01   Raining
Alpine -3c Midmtn 1c Valley 5c NewSnw 0cm  Base 76cm

Nov 03 '01   Clear
Alpine -2c Midmtn 3c Valley 4c NewSnw 0cm  Base 74cm

Some precip expected tonight with snowlevel at 1100m

Nov 02 '01
Alpine -7c Midmtn -2c Valley 4c NewSnw 0cm  Base 74cm

Several of you receive the Mountain Update and have told me that there is an official snowdepth and it is.....74cm. BUT, for those of you who know Whistler Mountain the weather station is below the Chic Pea restaurant (just go down Pig Alley it'll be in the trees between you and Lower Whisky Jack) Chic Pea is at approx. 1675 m while Ravens Nest (bottom of Big Red) and Olympic Station (first gondola stop) are between 1150 and 1300 meter Right now it's -2c there but yesterday it was +3 and raining! I am adding Midmtn temp to the report so y'all can track it day to day.

Oct 30 '01 Alpine -3c  Valley 1c Snow ?cm  Midmtn ?cm

It's cold enough, we had frost on the pond around here but we've had no precip. Something is in the air though, I can feel it.

Oct 24 '01 Alpine -6c  Valley 1c Snow ?cm  Midmtn ?cm

Dudes! It's like, you know..
SNOWING!!
It looks like it's going to keep snowing all week long. No official word yet on how much we got on top. Gotta be close to a meter by now.

Oct 21 '01 Alpine -4c  Valley 0c Snow ?cm  Midmtn ?cm

Oh by the way. It's Snowing Big Time!! Even at groundlevel it's staying depending on where you are in Whistler. We must have close to three feet up there. Anyone willing to bet on an early opening???

Oct 12 '01 Alpine -2c  Valley 2c Snow ?cm  Midmtn ?cm

I don't usually start reporting on a regular basis this early but hé there is snow up in them thar hills! People living higher up are driving snow covered cars into the village! If this keeps up we'll have an early opening this year, who knows maybe we'll be skiing into the village in November. Then again maybe I'll be eating my words. Pass the ketchup.

Oct 10 '01 Alpine -5c  Valley 2c Snow ?cm  Midmtn ?cm

It's -5 in the alpine and -1 at mid-station. Right now it's rain mixed with wet snow down here in the valley. I can't see what's going on up higher but I have a good feeling!!

Oct 08 '01 Alpine -4c  Valley 6c Snow 0cm  Midmtn 0cm

Snow in the Alpine!! Remember, you read it here first! Don't know how much, the tops are covered in low cloud but there was a quick break in the clouds, your faithfull observer cought it and saw... White Stuff Up There. Looking Good!

Oct 04 '01 Alpine c  Valley 15c Snow 0cm  Midmtn 0cm

Don't get you knickers in a knot! There is nothing to report yet. Just wanted to let you know that the Farmers Almanac promises a good snowyear for Whistler. There was a report of a dusting on top last week but I wasn't here. Keep in touch!

Aug 23 '01 Alpine c  Valley 13c Snow 0cm  Midmtn 0cm

Don't mind me, I am just here complaining about an August that sucks the biggest bones in memory! I just hope all this precip we have had so far is not coming off our winter precip account. If the blue skies that we should have today show up in November I am going to be truly pissed!

June 2 '01 Alpine -6c  Valley 11c Snow 0cm  Midmtn 122cm

Right people, skiing is now only for the very hardcore it is June after all. Whistler will close this Friday. According to the weatherman it will be an overcast week with some sunny breaks and things lightening up towards the end of the week. I am goin to end this season's report. Check back here every once in a while, if there is anything outrageous happening I will report otherwise I will see you all at the beginning of next season. Chin up it's only 51/2 months away. Keep'm waxed!

May 29 '01 Alpine -5c  Valley 5c Snow 21cm  Midmtn 138cm

Yeah! Read those numbers again why don't you. 21cm new snow! -5c in the Alpine! How weird is that?? Day before yesterday this system moved in from the Pacific, we got cold, we got clouds basically we got winter back. It looks like we'll be making June 10th the official closing date after all. Stay tuned.

May 26 '01 Alpine 9c  Valley 20c Snow 0cm  Midmtn 148cm

Still sunshine, still warm, still melting fast. Are we going to make June 10th (official closing day)?
