Turns out I had to be in the Big Smoke (Vancouver) for a while but we had an epic April with a 48cm week starting April 13th. Snow all the way down in the village and powder runs in the Alpine! Life was good. Right now we have an serious base and awesome spring weather. Ski-out into the village is still on but for how long is up to the weather gods.
Freshies galore, visibility a-1 anything else we can do for you? You're welcome.
So like, I was away for a week or so but hey! Spring is here and the riding is easy. We had several dumps this week ending with this last 24 cm one. Check out the base! This season is going to last. Meanwhile I am going to ride some pow in the sun.
Flurries bringing new snow, snow a little sticky on the lower slopes, good conditions especially higher up.
Clear skies, a day at the beach! Lots of powder stashes all over the mountain. Want to know where? Send for the secret powder map, only $29.99 while stocks last.
An excellent clear day with plenty of fresh (we got 25 cm over the previous 48 hours). Visibilty is great the groomed runs excellent and the powder stashes deep. Be here!
45 cm in the last two days, this can't be bad! There is more (much) snow in the forecast. If you can't be here I feel your pain.
Snow from now until Wednesday. Meanwhile we've got machine groomed softpack with pow stashes hidden in the secret places.
A day at the beach, snow coming in the afternoon? We'll see.
13 More centimeters, bring it on! It's going to clear up by tomorrow, looks there are some excellent days coming up with sunshine and half a meter of fresh to ride on.
Oh Yeah, it has arrived. The Dump. More to come. Stay tuned
Sunny and bright but... something is a coming I can feel it in my bones. Conditions are machine groomed hardpack.
We had a few flurries pass over but noting of consequence came of it. Snow is going to happen according to the man. Stay tuned.
The cold spell is over the snow is softer to ride on and we should be getting some fresh over this coming week.
I'ts looking gorgeous bring your camera but don't forget to put on some layers, the temperature us trending up but it's still nippy up there
It's seriously cold up there. Even with the sun shining it's only going to get colder today. -20c On the Peak this afternoon says the man. Get y'r woolies out!
It's getting colder, no new snow, conditions are groomed hardpack. The run are in good shape with the sun on them and fresh snow being made it works for me.
Dudes! It's warm up there, You can leave the layers at home. The snow is nice and soft though and that's all for the good. We may get some snow overnight but get this. The man says some seriously cold air is coming at us from the north, We may and up with coldest days on record!!
Spring skiing has arrived! Blue sky as far as the eye can see but hardpacked conditions lower on the hill! Will it last? Yes at least for two more days. It's going to get real warm the snow will soften up then, come the weekend, temperatures will drop again and we may get some precip.
Vistas as far as the eye can see. Plenty sunshine and lots of good snow. The complaints department is closed for the day.
Not exactly a spiffy day today. Fog banks rolling in and out and a big wind higher up. Life's like that.
Another 40 cm on top of 10 that we got yesterday do I really need to say more?
It's dump city here in snowy Whistler. We got 50cm over the last 48 hour. Right now we got a break in between storms. Tomorrow the next dump arrives. Ok -that was a hint, get here, do it now
17 Fresh centimeters people, if you don't mind I'll go check'm out right now. Later!
We're going to have some bouncing freezinglevels again, a bit more snow today and all around excellent conditions. The snow is in great condition in the alpine and solid at ski-out levels.
Gorgeouosity as far as the eye can see. We has some sun peek through every once in a while what can I say. Be here!
We had a blip in the temperature curve, it warmed up and packed down the snow quite a bit. The temp is already dropping again and we're expecting a few more loads of snow before the week is out.
Dude! We got puked on again these last two days 60c's in 48 hours and we have an other week of more snow in the forecast.
An other 32c's it's just puking out there. What can I say, come and get it or else get yourself a beer and go cry in it somewhere.
It's absolutely epic people! Every night we're getting dumped on some so it's pow as far as the eye can see and the forecast is for downward trending temperature and more precip. If you can't make it here well, I feel your pain.
Oh yeah. 35 c's - here it is. The mountain is one big epic pile o'powder. Come and get I would say.
We had a bit of pineapple express come through bringing rain into the village and even higher up for half a day. All is well that ends well. We've got 165 solid centimeters and a whole shipload of precip come our way. As always the questions is, where is the snowline going to hang?
Just about one meter and a half people. Keep in mind this is measured at Pig Alley well below the Roundhouse on Whistler Mountain. The alpine looks good!
Happy New Year (2006 that is)
We've got snow top to bottom although the rideout into the village is still sketchy. Alpine riding is solid with actual pow stashes hidden away if you know where to look. More snow's a coming
It looks like we're back in business. The magic 100cm base has been broken. There is a lot more snow in the forecast but as always it's the freezing level that's the joker in the pack.
Merry Christmas!
Big Snow, it has arrived! More to come except...tomorrow, Saturday the freezing level is going to pop way up only to come down again on Sunday - Christmas day. I think Santa is going to drop a load on us. Stay tuned!
Snow in the alpine! It's there people all you have to do is go high and stay there. It looks like the freezing level is dropping.
Ok so we got 5 cm last Monday but then its started to rain! Right now there is fresh snow in the high alpine with the snowline expected to drop overnight to about midstation. There is plenty of snow in the forecast just don't look for it in the village.
Snow's coming people but so is warmer weather. Where is that damn snowline going to sit? It'll start out high and then drop slowly over the week, keep'm crossed. Meanwhile ski-out into the village is open on both mountains and the new tube park at base two is open as well. Enjoy!
Fresh Snow by Monday. This is an order! Meanwhile the snow guns are blasting away and we'll be able to ride down into the village by this weekend.
The high pressure area from hell is about to move in overhead and stay there for the rest of the week. (for the weather challenged amongst you, that means clear skies I.E. no snow!). The only good news is, it's cold enough for the mountainmen to make snow. I expect to be riding top to bottom by the end of the week!
We are riding down to Olympic Station on Whistler Mountain but all on manmade snow.
Not much news from the western front I am afraid. If we get some fresh you'll be the first on to know.
Still waiting for that epic dump. Didn't make the one meter base but the constant refreshing of the base by flurries keeps things nice and softpacky. Ofcourse they are making snow by he ton so the runs are being build up quite nicely as well.
A nice clear day, snowconditions are nicely softpacked but jeezz.. it's cold. Make sure you layer up. We're not going to get to the one meter mark by Sunday I am afraid, it's going to be a couple of cm here and couple there until at least next week.
Looks like we got our first flurry. Hey, 4cm ain't bad for a flurry. Conditions meanwhile are excellent, some guys are already going into the trees but there's still snags sticking out. I think I'll wait for that one meter dump.
The weather man has changed the forecast again and put of the big dump off until Friday. Never mind, there are all kind of flurries in the forecast to keep things fresh. It still looks good for a one meter base by Sunday.
The base is building quite nicely thank you, the snowguns are going full tilt and we have some light snow falling right now from top to bottom. The big dump expected for Monday has been put of until Thursday until then it's flurries now and then. Fingers crossed the base will be a meter by next Sunday.
Excellent early season conditions. a 69cm base with a bit of fresh on top, heavy snow mind you but that's great for base building. The temp is dropping steadily which means the snowguns will start working tonight plus we've been promised some snow over the weekend and big dump on Monday.
Ten days since the last report! Ok nothing much happened we basically had a week of spring skiing, temperatures in the high 10's and sunshine. Great stuff but now it's back to business. The temp is going to drop and there is going to be some serious snow between now and Monday. Stay tuned.
I just shoveled an other 4 cm off of the driveway. It's warming up slighty down here but conditions are like butter up in the Alpine.
Here we are people, Blackcomb is officially open for the season! Whistler Mountain opens next week. We had a warm front drop by and deliver rain top to bottom that's why the base is only 50cm but keep in mind that's 50cm of solid packed down base. A cold front has arrived and it's snowing as we speak. Need I say more?
After an excellent early weekend opening on a 2 foot base we're waking up to real snow down here in the valley it's not wet this time around but an inch of the real stuff that will need to be shoveled. Oh yeah, it's snowing (lightly) right now.
It's snowing down here in the valley people, big fat wet ones but they're sticking to the floor right now. Looking good for tomorrow opening day.
Early Opening! Yep, this Saturday Nov. 5th Blackcomb will be open for the weekend. The earliest ever!! It's snowing (wet!) down here in the village but it's good snow higher up and we're expecting about a meter more by the time the weekend rolls around!
There is some serious snow falling up there people. The man says, it may go on for a while and it's still only October! Early opening anyone??
There is snow up there, it looked real good yesterday but then it started raining again :( Anyway there is still 6 weeks to go 'til opening day.
And we're back! What is it going to be? The chill is back, there is some white stuff in the high alpine. Right now your guess is as good as mine. ===== 2005 New Season 2006 ======
Ok guys, it's all over but the shouting. The Crud to Mud race has been cancelled because of a lack of crud. Normally the Crud to Mud is my official switchover from board to bike but I've actually been biking full on for more than a month and I've only been up to board once or twice during that time. Let's do it all again next season this time with snow!
It's winding down quickly now. Big Red is done for the season things are getting seriously slushy. The big question is, where will the Crud to Mud race switch over point be? Last year it was just below the bottom of Emerald Chair, will we get that low this time?
It looks like we have a bit of a whimpie sytem hanging overhead. Nothing much is falling out, probably a good things because the freezing level is way high. Anyway it's May so we can't really expect any more snow and besides we're all getting seriously in to mountain biking now. |
