HAPPY NEW YEAR! There is plenty of snow in the forecast but it's also warming up. Ski above midstation for the next few days I'd say and keep dancing that fresh pow dance. I think it's working.
It's going to be a fast day today, conditions are groomed hardpack. Bring your camera. The man is promising more snow tonight. What does he know?
Excellent December conditions, top to bottom riding, more snow is on the way. Any questions?
Don't forget to layer up and enjoy the clear skies. A new system is moving this way, it's going to start snowing this aft with a major dump expected on Monday.
Looks great, we may get a few flurries but at the moment it's all quiet on the Whistler front. Little wind, good viz, be here!
Nice and steady, a few flurries to keep the pow fresh but nothing over the top. A big dump is expected on Sunday, Saturday looks like a corker. Come and check it out.
Who'da thunk it? 2 Meters by Christmas, less than 3 weeks ago I wrote that locals were staying off the hills in order to leave some for our visitors. Guess what, we're up there now. Last one on top is a rotten egg.
Merry Christmas! Obviously Santa did not forget about us and just as obviously we've all been Véry good. After almost meter of fresh pow it's still falling. This can go on for a while so if you like it fluffy get down here now!
Christmas Eve! Is santa going to bring us some more snow or what? The signs are encouraging, have you been good? Every single snowgun is blasting in the meantime, we may end riding into the village on man made snow today.
We may get some flurries later on today, then again we may not. Jeez, I should become a weatherman. I'd be good at it.
Big snow is a'comin we may get some later today. Skiing and riding is good, some people with boulder boards or rock skis are riding into the village already, some creek jumping required.
Right, why do I have this deja-vu feeling all over again? Could it be this High Pressure Area that moved in and is stuck overhead. Again!! This time we have plenty of cold and a good base so the snowguns are able to freshen up and keep all the runs open.
We've got a bit of a dry spell, no new snow until Sunday at the earliest. We've got plenty though and where needed more can be made.
It's snowing down here is we speak (ok, as I write). It looks like it could keep on snowing for a long time. The man says we'll have snow on and off until Saturday. Who's complaining?
Everything above midstation is open. Occasionally we have some snow falling down here in the valley. Will we be able to ski into the village by Christmas? Stay tuned.
We're downloading from midstation now, most of the upper runs are skiable. Lots more snow to come but not down here in the valley.
We are like, só back in business. A week and a half to go to Christmas and we have more than a meter up top. Are we going to have snow on the ground for that Christmassy feeling? No fear mate!
As far as the ground floor is concerned mom nature can't make up her mind, one moment it's snowing the next it's rain. Higher up the hill is a different story, solid snow! If this keeps we'll be well passed the 1 meter mark by Christmas.
This is much better a nice solid dump overnight and temperatures where we'd expect them to be. The season will recover quite nicely if this holds up.
This sucks! Rain top to bottom. It'll get cold again this afternoon. What is up with this damn temperature yoyo? Looks like tomorrow is a good day to ski, today is just wet.
Serious base building has now commenced. Mother nature and the mountain people are both working at it. While waiting for the next system to arrive every snowgun on the mountain is blasting
15cm! It's better than a kick in the butt. The next system will arrive tonight. We'll have lots of precip this week but temperatures could be a problem.
We're in business folks. Something white and cold made it all the way to my driveway just a second ago it melted but still, there it was. It's cold on top and the freezing level is coming down methinks winter has started, stay tuned.
It looks like the drought is over. Good things are in the forecast snowbearing clouds are coming this way. The first ones are expected tonight with snow falling out of them by morning.
Locals are staying off the hills in order not to ski out what little snow there is. Let's get through this weekend.
No report yesterday 'cause nothing much to report. Snowguns have been blasting when temperatures permitted but that's been very on and off. Conditions are "crappy early season" but there is light at the end of the tunnel.
Freezing level up and down, snowguns turned on whenever temperature allows. B/W invests an other half mill in 10 new snowguns and three compressors. Snow guns work at -2c. Yó, whoever is in charge! Give us the right temp we'll make the damn snow ourselves!
5 hardpacked runs open on each mountain, freezing top to bottom snowmaking in full swing. High Pressure Area from Hell still overhead.
The cooling trend is definitely continuing, freezing levels are coming down. We just have to get through this afternoon, tonight the freezing will start, the snowguns will blast and winter wíll have arrived.
Welcome to December and the W/B Snow shuffle. Make it here, take it there, if mom nature doesn't give it up we'll do it ourselves! This is definitely an American Thanksgiving opening weekend to remember.
Keeping runs open with bucket brigades moving snow from where it is to where it's needed is just not what I had in mind for this season opening weekend but there you have it. Good news? Temperatures have peaked, freezing levels should start coming down to the point where snowmaking can start again by Sunday.
This is só not cool. American Thanksgiving is coming up while the Ridge of High Pressure from Hell is stuck overhead. No relief in site until Monday at the earliest.
That's right, that's right. Read'm and weep. Those temperatures I mean. 10c in the Alpine! Unbelievable! At this rate they'll be running out of snow before the month's out. Nothing doing until December I'm afraid.
So like, four boarders are sitting in the back of a car. What do you call the guy driving the car? Hé I am sorry man what do you want from me? I'm freezing down here in the valley and it's 5c in the Alpine. This season is starting out so weird I don't even want to talk about it. Anyway, the guy up front? You'd call him officer.
Nothing new weather wise. The weekend reports are in from people who've been there and it's actually a lot better than it sounds, sure there are only limited runs open but they're ok. Even the terrain park is open!
All right, now I have seen it all. 2c in the Alpine!! What Is Up With That? I give up, forget about any serious snow until December at the earliest.
This would be such an excellent day if we had more snow, as it is we have sunny skies great views but very thin snow.
It's finally below 0c again up there. They're making snow like crazy right now. When they concentrate all their guns on a few runs they should be able to make a foot of snow. Tomorrow is opening day!
This is starting to suck Huge! What's with all this warm air? Blackcomb will open as scheduled but don't expect a lot. Horstman Glacier, Jersey Cream, Wishbone. That's pretty well it. What really sucks is that there is more warm air in the forecast for next week.
This Saturday people! It's a little early to make predictions but it looks like we'll be opening under clear skies. There's a few more systems coming but then on Friday things clear up. I wish that stoopid freezing level would come down though.
Looking Good! We're in between two storm systems right now with the sky clearing every once in a while. It sure looks good up there. We've had opening days with a 60cm base This time we have 9 days to go with at least one mayor pacific storm system arriving this weekend. I think we'll be opening on a one meter base this season.
Temperature is still the problem, lots of precip but lots of warm air as well. It is November so what do I expect? Two weeks to go.
This is nerve wrecking, we've got plenty of systems coming in off of the Pacific Ocean with plenty of rain which is good and plenty of warm air which is not good. The temp. in the Alpine has stayed below zero so serious base building has begon. Exactly two weeks to go 'till opening day!!
Here is a special late report. It's -1c in the Apine and it's raining down here. Dude, add it up! Looks like there is whole series of storms lining up over the Pacific all of'm ready to dump loads. It's ugly in the Alpine right now. Ugly is Good! Ugly is cold and foggy and clouds dropping precip. Let's have a whole lot of ugly between now and Nov.23 when Blackcomb opens.
About those worry beads, smoke'm if you have'm. They've started making snow on the Alpine runs and it looks like opening day is going to be on man made snow! The best the weatherman can do for us is cloudy periods by Tuesday! One good thing is the artic outflow we're under right now, it's Cold so the snowguns can do their work. Opening day is three weeks away!
Ok people, let's get serious here. The first real snowfall of the season is happening right now. It's not much but it's a beginning. We've got more sunny days ahead but what falls today will stay and be part of this season's base.
I'm with the monkey (ok, orangutan for you purist). Looks like an other week of blue skies and sunny days. This would be a drag if it wasn't for the old mountainbike.
It's not like I have any snow to report but I have the feeling some of you are getting antsy. You want to plan your holidays. No problem, book now! It's going to be a great year.
It's happening guys! A cold front overhead is dropping precip. It's falling as snow all the way down to midstation. Is it going to stay? Brutally honest? Not likely except maybe in the Alpine.
Not that I am ready to start the Report this early in the season but
I just want to go on record.
There we are people it's the end of May and we just dropped through the
2 meter level. We are at 196cm with about one week of skiing to go on
Whistler Mountain. The man says it's going to be a good week. I have to
go to see a man about a thing but keep your eyes on this space because
we will be back next season.
