Centimeters?? What the..!

      1cm = .39 inch
      10cm = 3.9 inch
      30.5 cm = 1 foot
      100cm = 1 meter
      1 meter = 3.24 feet or slighty
       more than a yard.

Celsius Explained.
There is still one nation left in this world where the Fahrenheit scale is used to measure temperature. You know who you are. Here is a quick Celsius refresher. Water freezes at 0c therefore anything between -1c and -10c is good for snow while still comfortable for people. As far as aprés in the village is concerned people will sit outside on the patios at about 5c. Yes I know, people have been known to sit outside at
-10c but those are the ones feeling no pain.

May 31 '03 10:00 AM Overcast, UnltdVis. Wind SE 5 k/h
Peak 4c Alpine 7c Valley 12c NewSnw 0cm  Base 210cm

We had a couple of warm summer days but now the clouds are back, we could get some rain. Next week (last week of the season) looks good again. Only 8 days left!

May 29 '03 01:00 PM Blue Sky, UnltdVis. Wind NE 15 k/h
Peak 4c Alpine 12c Valley 18c NewSnw 0cm  Base 223cm

Only people who don't mind walking a bit ride down to Olympic station, the rest downloads from the top. We're still well over two meters, not bad for this season which took forever to get going. Only 10 days left!

May 27 '03 10:00 AM Broken Cloud, VarVis. Wind NE 15 k/h
Peak 1c Alpine 5c Valley 9c NewSnw 0cm  Base 240cm

Yesterday was excellent today looks good but we have some unsettled weather coming our way (again), only 12 days left!

May 25 '03 11:00 AM Cloudy, VarVis. Wind NE 25 k/h
Peak 1c Alpine 6c Valley 10c NewSnw 0cm  Base 240cm

We've had some warm rainy weather over the last two days but it's clearing up now. It looks like tomorrow would be the day for one of the final runs of the season.

May 23 '03 09:00 AM Cloudy, VarVis. Wind NE 25 k/h
Peak 2c Alpine 6c Valley 10c NewSnw 0cm  Base 250cm

We've had a few Pacific fronts pass overhead but it's lightening up now. It looks like a good weekend coming up whether you are riding planks or wheels.

May 21 '03 10:00 AM Cloudy, VarVis. Wind NE 5 k/h
Peak -1c Alpine 3c Valley 8c NewSnw 0cm  Base 255cm

And we're back! By all acounts the spring skiing/riding has been great to awesome. There is still 255cm left which is only 30cm less then when I left. We had some fresh snow over the last week or so. All in all not a bad end of season I'd say.

May 02 '03 12:00 PM Overcast, ClearVis. Wind N 25 k/h
Peak -3c Alpine 6c Valley 12c NewSnw 0cm  Base 285cm

It's raining down here but check out the temp in the Alpine! That's right it's snowing up there go check it out when the sun gets back! Meanwhile I am outta here for a couple o'weeks, if there is any snow left to report on when I get back I will. Cheers from Me!

What can I tell you it's been outstanding! I've got one scary looking goggle tan. It looks like it's going to be like this for a while although the man says there maybe a shower here and there, I think he says that just to keep us on our toes.

Apr. 27 '03 10:00 AM Blue Sky, VarVis. Wind W 25 k/h

Peak -4c Alpine 1c Valley 6c NewSnw 6cm  Base 303cm

Looks like an interesting week coming up partly sunny with freezing levels about at the bottom of Emerald chair on Whistler. This is the last day for Blackcomb this season, unless you're a summer glacier skier say goodbye to the big guy for the next seven months.

Apr. 25 '03 09:00 AM Blue-ish Sky, UnltdVis. Wind SW 5 k/h
Peak -4c Alpine 1c Valley 2c NewSnw 0cm  Base 305cm

Sofar the end of season skiing has been good. Blackcomb mountain is about to close for the winter season but Whistler will be open until June 8th.

Peak -5c Alpine 1c Valley 4c NewSnw 14cm  Base 310cm

A major dump! All of a sudden the temperature dropped and we had snow all the way down here at the valley floor last night. It's gorgeous up on top, go check it out.

Apr. 21 '03 09:00 AM Overcast, UnltdVis. Wind N 25 k/h
Peak -1c Alpine 3c Valley 5c NewSnw 5cm  Base 308cm

It's very quiet up there right now, spring conditions ofcourse so lots of room to move if you don't mind a bit of slush here and there.

Apr. 20 '03 09:00 AM Overcast, UnltdVis. Wind N 35 k/h
Peak -3c Alpine 2c Valley 4c NewSnw 0cm  Base 310cm

It's getting warmer again and it's going to stay that way for while. Hé what did you expect? It is spring after all.

Apr. 19 '03 08:00 AM Overcast, VarVis. Wind NE 25 k/h
Peak -5c Alpine -3c Valley 3c NewSnw 1cm  Base 314cm

It's going to be a mixed bag today. It's cool and there is good chance we'll get some flurries. WSSFestival is about to go out with a bang this weekend. Be here if you can!

Apr. 18 '03 07:00 PM Sunny Breaks, VarVis. Wind NE 35 k/h
Peak -5c Alpine -1c Valley 8c NewSnw 0cm  Base 320cm

It's definitely cooler, when there is snow it snows all the way down to midstation. Downloading from midstation is definitely the thing now.

Apr. 17 '03 07:00 PM Sunny Breaks, VarVis. Wind E 25 k/h
Peak -2c Alpine -1c Valley 7c NewSnw 2cm  Base 320cm

An interesting few days ahead. Tomorrow should be solid to good with snow overnight and sun during the day.

Apr. 16 '03 11:00 AM Overcast, VarVis. Wind S 15 k/h
Peak -3c Alpine 0c Valley 6c NewSnw 3cm  Base 315cm

Snowing lightly this morning on top, looks like there may be some sunny breaks. Telus WSSFestival going strong.

Apr. 15 '03 04:00 PM Overcast, VarVis. Wind E 25 k/h
Peak -3c Alpine 5c Valley 10c NewSnw 0cm  Base 320cm

Fog and snow and sun and... Yep, it was one of those days. I was able to ride from Blackcomb into the village, I only had to step out of the bindings once. Death before Download!

Apr. 14 '03 12:00 PM Light Overcast, UnltdVis. Wind NE 35 k/h
Peak -4c Alpine 1c Valley 5c NewSnw 7cm  Base 324cm

Yep, we're still getting fresh snow on top. It is actually getting a little cooler with the freezing level dropping well below mid station during the night. We might see some snow around mid mountain!

Apr. 13 '03 12:00 PM Light Overcast, UnltdVis. Wind W 5 k/h
Peak -2c Alpine 4c Valley 9c NewSnw 3cm  Base 322cm

It's sloppy at midstation. Stay high! The Telus World Ski & Snowboard Festival is on right now. Come and join the party.

Apr. 12 '03 06:00 PM Sunny Periods, UnltdVis. Wind E 35 k/h
Peak -2c Alpine 3c Valley 11c NewSnw 0cm  Base 328cm

Spring conditions are here in other words - it's icy in the morning and softens up during the day. Pick your times carefully and work your way up the mountain as the day progresses.

Apr. 11 '03 08:00 AM Overcast, UnltdVis. Wind E 35 k/h
Peak -6c Alpine -2c Valley 3c NewSnw 10cm  Base 345cm

A big system passed through last night but it also brought warm again so only the alpine got fresh snow. I'll go and find out where exactly the snow line is/was. Stay tuned.

Apr. 10 '03 08:00 AM Blue Sky, UnltdVis. Wind NE 35 k/h
Peak -7c Alpine -2c Valley -1c NewSnw 0cm  Base 350cm

I must say 350cm is an excellent base to start the spring season with, they are still doing avalanche control in the alpine. There is barely anything left at the bottom but the top rocks!

Apr. 09 '03 09:00 AM LightOvercst, Var Vis. Wind NE 35 k/h
Peak -8c Alpine -3c Valley 2c NewSnw 43cm  Base 350cm

An other big dump, almost a meter in 48 hours. It's dry now anyone for Pow!! Come and get it.

Apr. 08 '03 05:00 PM Overcast, Var Vis. Wind N 45 k/h
Peak -3c Alpine 1c Valley 7c NewSnw 41cm  Base 317cm

As you can see we got a bit of snow in the last 24 hours but keep in mind that's only in the Alpine. Today rain turned to snow about halfway up Garbanzo. It's still snowing/raining now so there should be an other dump by tomorrow

Apr. 07 '03 08:00 PM Overcast, Unltd Vis. Wind NE 65 k/h
Peak -4c Alpine -1c Valley 3c NewSnw 4cm  Base 284cm

Wow. What a difference a day makes. It's been coming down all day today but I was in Vancouver. It looks good from down here but the mountain report claims 4 cm's only for today. Let's see what happens overnight.

Apr. 06 '03 10:00 AM Sunny, Unltd Vis. Wind NE 15 k/h
Peak -6c Alpine -1c Valley 2c NewSnw 2cm  Base 285cm

What can I say. Spring skiing has arrived. Come and check it out.

Apr. 05 '03 08:00 AM Cloudy, Unltd Vis. Wind NE 25 k/h
Peak -9c Alpine -6c Valley -1c NewSnw 4cm  Base 285cm

How weird is this? For the fourth morning in a row we wake up to snow on the valley floor. I am sure it'll melt off again during the day but it's still weird, good but weird. Conditions Rock!

Apr. 04 '03 08:00 AM Sun+Cloudy Pers, Unltd Vis. Wind W 5 k/h
Peak -9c Alpine -5c Valley -1c NewSnw 2cm  Base 282cm

Sorry if you visited us earlier in the season and conditions were not all you'd expected but I have to tell you right now, it Rocks! Sunny skies but cool top to bottom with a bit of fresh every night. Spring skiig at it's best (hmmm I just got Deja Vu all over again)

Apr. 03 '03 08:00 AM Sunny Periods, Var Vis. Wind N 35 k/h
Peak -10c Alpine -6c Valley -1c NewSnw trace  Base 286cm

A lovely day, sunshine and a trace of new snow here on the valley floor. Looks like it's going to warm up down here but stay cool on top. Clear vis, excellent snow, spring skiing at it's best.

Apr. 02 '03 11:00 AM Sunny Periods, Var Vis. Wind N 25 k/h
Peak -9c Alpine -2c Valley 1c NewSnw 9cm  Base 286cm

We had an other top to bottom dump. There is still snow in the trees here on the valley floor although it's warming up and it won't last the day, higher up though it's great and even the bottom runs look better.

Apr. 01 '03 05:00 PM Broken clouds, Var Vis. Wind N 25 k/h
Peak -8c Alpine -4c Valley 5c NewSnw 8cm  Base 283cm

A good day today, some flurries, some sun, reasonable wind. Best of all snow from top to bottom! I've seen worse. A lot!

Mar.30 '03 09:00 AM HighOvercast, Var Vis. Wind E 35 k/h
Peak -7c Alpine -3c Valley 3c NewSnw 6cm  Base 280cm

Cool again and no more rain! We may even get some more snow as a matter of fact the man says the freezing level will stay in the valley And we could see flurries every day. Anybody wanna bet?

Mar.30 '03 10:00 AM Overcast, Var Vis. Wind NE 35 k/h
Peak -2c Alpine 3c Valley 5c NewSnw 0cm  Base 281cm

Still raining top to bottom, not one of our best days. The temperature is supposed to start dropping later on today. Stay tuned.

Mar.29 '03 06:00 PM Overcast, Var Vis. Wind E 65 k/h
Peak -1c Alpine 3c Valley 6c NewSnw 1cm  Base 295cm

It's raining pretty well top to bottom but the good news is that the freezing level is going to drop into the valley by Monday. We may even get a nice top to bottom dump. Fingers crossed.

Mar.28 '03 08:00 AM HighOvercast, Clear Vis. Wind NE 5 k/h
Peak -7c Alpine -3c Valley -1c NewSnw 0cm  Base 297cm

Looks good right now but there is a storm on the way, snow, rain and wind are a'coming.

Mar.27 '03 08:00 AM Overcast, Var Vis. Wind NE 5 k/h
Peak -6c Alpine -3c Valley 1c NewSnw 0cm  Base 309cm

The cloud cover is high and thin looking. It looks like it's going to be a cool day without precipitation. There is plenty snow to go around!

Mar.26 '03 10:00 AM Overcast, Var Vis. Wind NE 35 k/h
Peak -8c Alpine -3c Valley 1c NewSnw 10cm  Base 310cm

It's snowing (wet) outside as I write this. Every inch on the lower runs puts the dreaded "downloading in effect" days a little further away into the future. Meanwhile in the Alpine it's soft snow and pow as far as the eye can see.

Mar.25 '03 09:00 AM Light Cloud, Var Vis. Wind NE 25 k/h
Peak -8c Alpine -3c Valley 1c NewSnw 8cm  Base 309cm

The cold air is being flushed out of the valley again so we're back to this season's regular pattern which is, plenty of snow on top and plenty of melted snow on the bottom.

Mar.24 '03 10:00 AM Blue Skies, UnltdVis. Wind NE 25 k/h
Peak -10c Alpine -3c Valley -1c NewSnw 11cm  Base 320cm

It's been a while since I was able to write "Blue Skies" in the yellow box. Today is going to be one of "those days". Sunshine clear Vis endless Pow. Sorry if you missed it but mom nature doesn't give a hoot about your holidays, or mine for that matter, she dumps when she feels like and if you or I don't like it we can lump it..

Mar.23 '03 08:00 AM Overcast, VarVis. Wind E 35 k/h
Peak -9c Alpine -4c Valley 2c NewSnw 11cm  Base 320cm

It's snowing lightly in the valley right now. It's to warm down here for it to stick but not much higher up the mountain it is (sticking that is). We've got some excellent conditions coming up this afternoon and tomorrow.

Mar.22 '03 06:00 PM Overcast, VarVis. Wind E 55 k/h
Peak -6c Alpine -3c Valley 4c NewSnw 31cm  Base 325cm

Some major pow fell over the last 24 hours. It actually started snowing in the valley late last night but that did not last. In the alpine there is huge powder to be found, I know, I got stuck in a powder field. Vis is a problem at times but should clear up tomorrow.

Mar.21 '03 06:00 PM Overcast, VarVis. Wind N 45 k/h
Peak -6c Alpine -2c Valley 4c NewSnw 14cm  Base 305cm

There is all kinds of powder runs if you know where to look! Stay high and enjoy, leave those bottom runs to get off the mountain at the end of the day. Colder weather is a'coming we may yet be able to rebuild the bottom (again!).

Mar.20 '03 09:00 AM Overcast, VarVis. Wind N 25 k/h
Peak -5c Alpine 1c Valley 1c NewSnw 17cm  Base 303cm

OK, so we finally passed the 3 meter mark but let me tell you it is heavy snow. This stuff is going to last well into June but right now it is heavy going in spots.

Mar.19 '03 06:00 PM Overcast, VarVis. Wind NE 65 k/h
Peak -5c Alpine -1c Valley 3c NewSnw 8cm  Base 294cm

It keeps on snowing so there are always some fresh(ish) tracks to be found. An other thing that keeps the tracks filled is the wind. Chairs in the high alpine run intermittently because of occasional windgusts way past 100KMH.

Mar.18 '03 08:00 AM Overcast, VarVis. Wind N 45 k/h
Peak -8c Alpine -4c Valley 0c NewSnw 2cm  Base 299cm

It's snowing (lightly) down here at the valley floor. Time to fix all that rain damage to the lower runs. Gotta run. Later.

Mar.17 '03 05:00 PM Overcast, VarVis. Wind NE 35 k/h
Peak -7c Alpine -2c Valley 4c NewSnw 11cm  Base 298cm

We've had snow every day for about a week now but we still did not get over the 3 meter mark. Reason? Temperature. It's going up and down like a yoyo. The man says it'll cool down over the next two days. I believe him 'cause.. what else can I do??
By the way, last week when all that snow was falling the wind was up something fierce both mountains pretty well closed on Thursday (tickets were refunded) and some of the upper lifts did not open again until Sunday.

Mar.16 '03 10:00 AM Overcast, VarVis. Wind SW 25 k/h
Peak -8c Alpine -5c Valley 3c NewSnw 4cm  Base 295cm

Nice day on top plenty of pow left. The freezing level is coming down which together with some flurries we've been promised means we should be able to repair the lower runs which have been beaten up by rain pretty badly these last few days!
