Still riding to the bottom of Emerald and Big Red. The mountain is full of skiers, snowboarders, sightseers and mountain bikers. It's all good.
Ten days to go guys. The Crud to Mud race is this Monday, will there be any snow left?
OK guys, it's melting fast now. Only two weeks left on Whistler Mountain. If you love spring skiing this is your season.
That rain we had a few days ago did turn out to be snow on top so we had an excellent day up there. We're back to regular spring conditions now so make sure you wax'm. By the way it's downloading form the Roundhouse for the rest of the season.
It's cooled of considerably and we had rain/snow overnight. Not sure where the snowline is. I'll go check it out, how's that?
Spring skiing on top. Mountain biking at the bottom. Whistler is one busy little mountain right now. The Crud to Mud race is coming up in a couple o'weeks (May 24)
We had some rain overnight but it's clearing up now. The sun will be back this afternoon. It looks like it's going to get colder next week with the freezing level dropping down to Olympic Station we might even get some snow?
Sunshine as far as the eye can see. It's melting fast now when it doesn't freeze at night it doesn't take long in the morning for things to go through the firm/soft/slush cycle. Be here at ten o'clock I would say and you'll have the best of spring conditions.
Big wind, big rain, not good. Freezing level supposed to come down during the day. Good.
It's going to be an other hot one today. Yesterday it got up to 22.5c in the village. The W.S.S.F is over Blackcomb closed on the weekend serious spring sking/riding is now the thing.
An other day in paradise and yada yada yada. What can I tell you sunshine and snow in the alpine, it's all good.
It's excellent up there not only did we have some snow but a big wind came with that which filled in some of the gnarly off-run areas. I actually took it into the trees which normally gets kinda sketchy in the spring but it worked great.
It's snowing/raining big time right now after two days of sunshine. he man says we may get up to 6 cm but then it'll dry up again with the sun returning tomorrow.
7 New centimeters not bad for late April it's pretty sticky stuff though. Downloading is over and done with for the season on both mountains. Right now they are scraping the last bits of snow from the mountainbike trails so they can start to dry out for the May opening.
Some snow already, we have a 60% chance of more during the day but apparently the big one is coming tonight. It actually looks alright right now, sun's trying to peek through but there's some heavy clouds coming in from the south.
We've got an eye of the storm situation here. It looks great out there right now but there are several Pacific storms headed our way. Will we get snow next week, will Stephan marry Joanne or will uncle Martin survive his fall down mount Everest so he can tell them they are brother and sister and can't marry? Tune in next week.
The WSSF is on. Today is the RipZone SnowBoard Invitational. Superpipe during the day, Big Air under lights in the village tonight!! No more downloading from Whistler, from Blackcomb D/L is not for beginners.
Well there you have it people one glorious cm of fresh pow, don't all come at once now you hear. Guess what though next week there's going to be Big Snow up there 15 to 25 cm according to the man and fairly low down the mountain as well. Stay tuned.
Good thing I didn't hold my breath (see yesterday) some snow fell but not in the area where the mountain has their measuring apparatus. Still, it's colder so the snow has stiffened up and according to the man there is still a chance of flurries.
It's cold enough for snow up there but there is/was not enough precip to speak of. Apparantly we're not done yet there is still a 60% chance of flurries. I am not holding my breath.
Snow tonight? The man says so. Either way the weather is going to be more April like the next week or so.
Right, it's going to get colder again and get this.. We may get some fresh snow higher up later on in the week. Who'da thunk it?
Just a reminder. Don't forget your sunscreen and shades. People are walking around with beet red faces and burning eyes, that can't be good. I forgot to put screen on my neck so I am going to be a redneck for a few days. It's sunshine on snow guys, it'll hit you from All angles.
This day is starting out warm and is not going to get any colder. Preparations for the World Ski and Snowboard festival have began. Stay Tuned.
Still riding into the village, how many more days? My bet? It'll last this weekend and then that's it.
Easter Weekend coming up guys, it's early this year with lot's of snow up there to play around with. Oh yeah, (almost forgot) it's sunny out there, you know what to do.
We had some rain overnight and there are some fogbanks rolling through the valley right now but a new high pressure area is building so stick with the shades and sunscreen routine and you can't go wrong.
The big question now is how long will we be able to ski into the village. Some people are downloading from midstation already because the snow at the bottom is too icky!! I give it a few more days.
OK so this is going to be a solid week of spring skiing. Make sure you've got your warm weather wax on and leave your layers at home.
Welcome to 04-04-04 this will happen only once this century. Enjoy it. It's also clock forward one hour if your jurisdiction works with daylight savings time. We've got sun, we've got snow. If you always wanted to do spring skiing at it's best, be here.
We've got a mild inversion right now but that won't last. It's definitely T-shirt weather. Leave your winterstuff at home and slap on lots of sunscreen because sun on snow means you're going to get it from all sides (U.V. rays that is).
Nothing but sunny days as far as the eyes can see. The good snow is higher up. Hortsman Glacier and 7th Heaven on Blackcomb or Whistler Bowl and Harmony on Whistler Mountain would be my areas to ride.
Another sunny day in paradise, conditions are softpack machine groomed. Spring skiing at it's best. Cheerz.
How does that grab you? 17 Big ones and freezing top to bottom, did somebody say spring skiing? Actually the sun is breaking through right now, does it get any better than this? What am I doing here? Later.
It's raining big time down here which means it's snowing up there. They had 5cm already and I am sure that number will be 10 or more by the end of the day. Looks like the man was right, if he keeps it up it means that Thursday is going to be an awesome spring day.
It's still beach weather but it won't last. Tonight we'll get rain which will turn into snow as the day progresses.
A day at the beach is today, bring you sunscreen. It looks like an excellent couple o'days coming up with some snow on Tuesday to start April off on the right foot.
An other 14c's what can I say, was it good for you? It certainly is for me. It's raining down here but snowing at just below midstation. Sunny breaks by this aft is what the man says.
I think this is it for the big snow this season we could get a few more flurries but from now on it's going to be spring conditions. For today, stay high and enjoy the powder.
27 Big ones people, (much?) more to come. No friends on powder days. Later!
It's coming down in buckets but not constantly if it was snow I would call 'm flurries but down here it's wet (very) snow and rain. It looks like the snowline is going to be above Olympic station but the freezing level goes up and down like a yo-yo so we'll have to wait and see.
So like, it's snowing/raining right now. The snow line is between 1500 and 1600 meter depending on which mountain you're looking at. The excellent news is that there is cold front coming in which is going to drop the freeezing level down into the valley ánd it carries a whole load of snow. Stay tuned.
Well, it did not, arrive, the snow I mean. Oh well spring skiing ain't all bad you know I think I may just go and partake.
Spring skiing is here big time but..., enjoy it while it lasts there is more snow in the forecast all through next week as a matter of fact it is supposed to arrive tonight.
It's looking like an excellent weekend coming up. Lot's of snow up there, good vis and sunshine later on in the day. As always, if you can't be here I feel your pain.
I feel a little bit more-ish to tell you the truth especially now that it is freezing top to bottom. Not sure if there is anything left in those clouds up there all I know is they'll be gone by tonight with mostly sunny skies tomorrow.
The promised winterstorm is here the first 18cm's are down. There's a big wind up there and not much vis but that's the price you pay for big dumps late in the season. More to come.
Oh yeah! The man is still sure of himself a "strong late winter storm" he calls it and it's coming right at us. Big snow starting this aft or tonight, could be half a meter by time it's all said and done. It's going to an epic weekend if it all comes true.
Some pretty big wind blowing up there today it's supposed to bring in a big dump by tomorrow aft. I am not holding my breath but I am keeping my fingers crossed, how's that for bending any way the wind blows?
Snow's a'coming but when? This aft, tonight, tomorrow? All of the above says the man. Let's have a little wager 30cm before the week is out!
An other sunny one, the man is still saying that next week is going to bring fresh snow. Who am I to call him a liar?
Looks like an other day at the beach but there is a chance of snow tonight. The temperature as always this time of year will be the thing to watch. Tell you what, I'll watch it for you, how's that?
Things did mellow out on top to the point of slushy-ness, last night it firmed up and with a bit of snow in the alpine conditions are back to normal. It looks like we'll get some serious snow but we'll have to wait until next week.
It's inversion time, warm on top cold below. Does that mean the icefields have softened up? Tune in next time and find out.
Groomed hardpack? You bet! And don't go off the groomed runs because it's solid ice or at least it was yesterday. Let's hope the sun softens up some of the ice fields today because we won't see any fresh snow until Thursday at the earliest.
Weird! It's been raining top to bottom last night but now the sun is breaking through and it's getting colder again. The freezing level is supposed to drop down to the valley again. As far as condtions are concerned? Try groomed - kinda soft -hardpack. I'll have to go see to be sure. Later.
Well, that sucked. Snow turned to wet snow and wet snow turned to rain. Yo, Weatherdude!! If it has to be this warm can we maybe just forget about the precip?? It's going to stay warm for the rest of the week. Lets have some no-rain dances.
20cm! normally the 20cm rule would apply which means you'll find nobody in the valley because everybody is up riding pow but! There is a fly in the ointment, there is big wind in the alpine and high temps below. Do I go up or stay down, decisions decisions.
Dudes! About 30cm since last Wednesday. Come and get it now, it's going to warm up tomorrow and next week with the freezing level at or above midstation. Lots more snow in the forecast as well but only in the alpine.
So like, the first 7cm are in. Good. Now for the next 10-20cm. It looks good it's snowing fairly heavy right now top to bottom and it feels like it might go on all day just like the man said. Stay tooned.
Ok that wasn't bad but we need a lot more. (snow that is). Stick around, right now we're having a lull in the proceedings but tonight and tomorrow gehts loss as the Germans say.
The good news is we've get 5cm fresh and it's still snowing. The better news is the man was right which may mean he's right about the next few days as well and he's saying there's more snow on the way.
More of the same today, if you're into getting a goggle tan it doesn't get much beter than this. The man still figures we're going to get snow tomorow. Cross'm if you got'm. Those temperatures in the yellow box? Keep in mind this is written at about 8AM, it does get a lot warmer during the day.
An other sunny day in paradise, what can I say spring skiing has arrived. No snow in the forecast until Wednesday at the earliest. It's going to get warm so forget about those layers a T-shirt and jacket should do it and the jacket will most likely come off in the aft. |
