Summer Season Report

Here we are again! It's September and the Christmas card wholesalers are up and about. T'is the time when a young men's fancy is still very much in Beer, Beach Etc., mode. However there are those new skies picked up during the spring sales and there is nip in the morning air and before you know it it'll be time to ride!!
Make sure you check back here for the snowreports. We'll start in earnest at the end of October.
April 24     3 cm  to  230cm

Season Finale

Yes folks. This is it for this season. I will be back, Bigger and Better next season. Make sure you bookmark this page and have a look every once in a while as I experiment with new looks and features.
Now to the business at hand. It's clearing up today. We even got some fresh snow overnight! Come on down. The skiing is radical. And lets not forget the riders. Everyone, especially the riders themselves know.
Boards Rule!
April 23     0 cm  to  235cm
Looks pretty sad out there. Low clouds, rain. May is just around the corner. Good thing too. This April "up one day down the next" thing is getting me down.
April 22     0 cm  to  255cm
The weather is holding. Ski in the morning, work on your tan in the afternoon. Only in Whistler. Feel like joining in? Bring your skies, bring your board, bring your bike!
April 21     0 cm  to  258cm
Fantastic ski conditions. Hé I am not making this up. I look out the window and I see what I see. Don't believe? Come check it out. Stay at Renoir's Winter Garden and I'll even show you the window.
April 20     0 cm  to  265cm
Blue sky is holding but I would hesitate to say it is holding firm. We are expecting clouds and maybe precip., later on in the day. Let's hope it's a lot later in the aft., like maybe 5 o'clock or so. When it comes to precip. It's better at night.
April 19     3 cm  to  268cm
This is an excellent day for Whistler Mountain to close. There's nothing like going out with a bang. Only a few patches of cloud left and great temperatures. What was that? Oh you were wondering about Whistler Mountain. Yes they are closing today. It's not the weather, they are going to build a new restaurant complex on top and they need all the building time they can get. Blackcomb ofcourse will be going full tilt until August.
April 18     0 cm  to  270cm
Here they are, the clouds that is. The temperature is up as well. Doesn't look like it's going to last though. Blue sky's will be back by Sunday, Monday at the latest.
So says the weatherman.
April 17     0 cm  to  275cm
So much for the clouds and the precipitation they were going to bring us yesterday. It's clear as a bell out there with unlimited vis. Temperatures have dropped a bit. The satelite pics look ominous but for now, lets Ride!
April 16     0 cm  to  275cm
We've got some high scattered coming in and the temperature is rising. Better get out here now. I can feel precip coming on and I can't guarantee that it will be the white fluffy kind.
April 15     0 cm  to  282cm
If I was a fashion commentator I'ld say Whistler has choosen a blue and white motive. Blue sky. White snow. I may not know fashion, but I know what I like.
I like it!
April 14     0 cm  to  286cm
Make that a seriously gorgeous week (see yesterday). The weatherman says we've got a high pressure area building in our area. I say, this would be a great time to come check it out.
April 13     5 cm  to  291cm
We're having a seriously gorgeous day here at Whistler. Those of you who made it up here for the Easter weekend, congrats. You obviously knew what you were doing.
Those who didn't make it! Make a note for next year.
April 12     3 cm  to  286cm
Was somebody dreaming of a white...Easter? Well. You got it. It snowing down here on the valley floor as we speak. There is a bit of sun trying to sneak through as well. It's minus 11 on top right now but it'll go up to minus 4. It's beginning to look a lot like Easter.
Indeed.
April 11     3 cm  to  282cm
The word of the day is. Stay in the Alpine. It's snowing up there but that's what skiing is all about. Down here? Well let's put it this way. If you where thinking of Apres Skiing on a terras. Bring your umbrella.
April 10     2 cm  to  281cm
I've got this strange feeling of DejaVu all over again. Yesterday I am filling the birdfeeder and I had customers right away. We had sun, we had birds. Today I look outside and there is this strange white stuff falling out of the sky? You really ought to come and see. It looks like you could have some serious fun in this stuff!
April 9     2 cm  to  278cm
Blue skies, a few very high very scattered clouds. Gorgeous day, loads of snow. Excellent temperatures.
I am outta here.
April 8     trace  to  277cm
Whoever talked to the lady (see yesterday), thanks! She came through. It turned excellent later on in the day. Today is just as good. Some high scattered but some sun peeking through as well and people are still skiing all the way into the valley to their cars and condo's.
All around, spring skiing as it should be!
April 7     trace  to  275cm
April does what she will! And today she wants to mess with my mind. This morning I woke up to snow! Big fat flakes all over the place. Then the temperature rose down here on the floor so now we've got liquid snow.
Could someone have a word with the lady?
April 6     0 cm  to  275cm
Nice! Sun peeking through the window, a few high scattered clouds, good temperature.
Come on down!
April 5     0 cm  to  275cm
Shall we be brutally honest? Today we are saving our excellent weather for Easter. All I can see down here is low cloud. I don't know what is going on "up there".
It is unlike that I'll go and find out.
Know what I mean?
April 4     3 cm  to  276cm
At the moment we've got this low cloud moving through (about mid-mountain). I hear it's clear on top. Temperatures are warmish and ofcourse we had 3 cm overnight. All in all not bad for an April day.
April 3     0 cm  to  275cm
Unlimited Vis., under high broken cloud. Remind you of something? Hint, see yesterday.
The sun is shining through the windows as we speak. I'm outa here.
April 2     trace  to  278cm
Mother nature did pull an April Fools on us yesterday. There were high clouds with blue spots yesterday morning. As soon as the report was done it started seriously clouding over. We actually got rain in the aft. This morning?
We've got high clouds with blue spots and sun peeking through!
April 1     1 cm  to  281cm
Welcome to April. Better get here quick if you want to ski Whistler Mountain. They will be closing in a couple of weeks. Blackcomb ofcourse will be open until August.
Weather today is excellent. Some high scattered cloud, a bit of low fog about to burn off plus good temperatures.
March 31     trace  to  281cm
As you can see the Vis. is clearing. There is some low fog in the valley but the sun is getting through so it'll be burned of shortly.
Looks like some excellent skiing up ahead.
March 30     trace  to  281cm
A system has moved in. It is snowing right now, lightly. Temperatures have gone up a bit
Skiing will be good once the fog lifts off.
Keep in touch.
March 29     0 cm  to  283cm
Even though the royal show has left town the royal snow certainly has not nor has the excellent weather. Unlimited vis. (I can see the tops from here) cool but not cold and warming up during the day.
Spring skiing with attitude I would say.
March 28     5 cm  to  288cm
Clear blue sky, 5cm new snow, cool and crisp but no wind. Royalty on the hill with an international presscorps in attendance. This is Whistler '98 folks. Turn on your TV and see for yourself
March 27     5 cm  to  282cm
Did someone mention spring? It's -3°C down here, I've got 5 cm of snow on the Renoir's Winter Garden driveway! There is more to come although I also saw some blue spots in the sky whizzing by.
As I said before, mountain weather..., you gotta love it!
March 26     3 cm  to  276cm
Talk about a change in the weather. Note what I wrote yesterday. Here I am at the same window at the same time and it's Snowing! Big fat ones, and they're staying! Not for long I'm sure because, well.., it is spring.
But you coulda fooled me.
March 25     0 cm  to  276cm
The sun is coming in through the window as I write this. It looks like the clouds are going to thicken up during the day but for now excellence rules!
Oh by the way if you see the future rulers of the British Empire up there say hi for me.
March 24     13 cm  to  285cm
13CM! And you thought the season was basically over and done with. I do believe there's even some sun peeking through up there.
Oh by the way, never mind the laid back thing (see yesterday). Let's plow some powder today!
March 23     3 cm  to  263cm
Low clouds still here but nothing much falling out of them. They just mess up the Vis. as they roll in and out. Sun may be peeking through today. Altogether a laid back kind of a spring skiing day here at Whistler, BC.
March 22     4 cm  to  260cm
Low clouds, precip. No Vis. BUT, snow! Look upon it as a little pain for a lot of gain. Me? I am happy the temperature is on downward trend. The snowline is at Pika's today (1800 meters) and dropping meaning more snow further down.
March 21     0 cm  to  263cm
It's a little cooler today, good thing because the high cloud looks like snow. We would like some snow, how about you?
The visibility is variable because although I can see the tops from down here there are some fog patches floating through.
March 20     0 cm  to  263cm
Spring's here! Come and get it! Not much change from yesterday, temperature a little up but then..., we are now officialy sliding into summer.
Shouldn't you be sliding with us? Pick your mountain.
March 19     0 cm  to  265cm
High broken clouds today. Probably a good thing because right now (7:30am) it's only -2 on top. With too much sun the temperature could get way to high.
Mind you judging by all these people walking around in the village with radical tans. There is something to be said for more sun.
March 18     0 cm  to  265cm
Some of you may have cought on to the fact that todays' report was put up a little late. Then again, there is not much change from yesterday. Gorgeous in other words. By the way the temperatures are given as they are in the morning. On clear days it Does warm up!
March 17     0 cm  to  267cm
Happy St.Pats all you wee green ones out there. Here in Whistler there's not a cloud to be seen anywhere and no wind to speak off either, temperatures are low but rising quickly with the sun doing it's thing unobstructed.
March 16     trace  to  269cm
So this is spring break. The weather sure looks like it. High scattered clouds, plenty of sun peeking through, snow up to your eyeballs.
I understand some folks actually go and sit on some Florida beach. I have to tell you, as a concept aprés beach just does not cut it.
March 15     2 cm  to  271cm
Tell me something. Is 2 cm considered new snow? Anyway we got it and I am glad, it could have been liquid snow. Down here in the valley meanwhile the hardy types are breaking out the bikes and rollerblades.
There is nothing like a bit of a workout on the bike after a relaxing day on the slopes.
March 14     0 cm  to  271cm
I guess I only had to ask. It is cooler today. No new snow but that's coming. Meanwhile the snow has hardened up some plus the snowgun boys and girls can do their thing.
The thing about weather is, it changes.
March 13     0 cm  to  280cm
OK, enough with the warm weather already. Time for some cool air and some snow. The weatherman is optimistic.
Don't say it.
March 12     0 cm  to  295cm
Spring skiing, you gotta love it. Have an other look at those temperatures. 3°C on top!? Here is the good news. With the snow softening up a little, those moguls that have been beating you up?
It's your turn now.
March 11     7 cm  to  299cm
It's very variable right now (can variable even be very?) Anyway we've been promised clearing sky's by the afternoon. And hé! 7 cm of powder is nothing to sneeze at.
March 10     trace  to  296cm
High overcast with mid mountain fog patches. In other words this time you run into fog but on the next run visibility will be as clear as a bell.
It's called variable visibility.
Now you know.
March 9     5 cm  to  295cm
It is snowing on and off. We've got a nice layer of powder on top of the pack. If nothing else it sure takes the edge off some of the harder moguls.
Mar 8     3 cm  to  290cm
It is snowing as we speak. Not much but it looks like it is going continue for a while. The temperature down here is edging higher but up the mountain it's just right.
We'll have some great conditions for all you spring break powderhounds.
March 7     trace  to  291cm
In case you were wondering why the pack did not shrink below 290cm. It's because they've been making the stuff. Hé! We do it all for you.
This afternoon the real stuff arrives. Right now all we have is high clouds but they smell right. If you know what I mean.
March 6     0 cm  to  291cm
Clear blue sky. No wind. It's hard to imagine snow falling from the same sky I am looking at right now. But! The man says it will and I believe.
If your tan needs touching up, today's the day.
March 5     trace  to  298cm
Better git here while the gittin is good. We've got a few systems building over the Pacific ready to pounce. Saturday is D-day as far as the man (the weatherman that is) is concerned.
We need snow though so lets have those systems.
March 4     0 cm  to  300cm
Those high scattered clouds yesterday? They did build into something, but not much. Me, I would call them lower scattered clouds, if you know what I mean.
We could do with a dump just to make sure the pack stays above 3 meters.
Otherwise it's smooth (uh) skiing.
March 3     0 cm  to  306cm
Hello..... Spring skiing. You should have seen those mountains this morning. (Right now would be good too.) There are a few high scattered clouds that might build into something but for now we Ride!
March 2     4 cm  to  308cm
Here is a new one for you. We've got fog in the valley but it's clear with high scattered clouds on top. Add to that an excellent temperature and a bit of fresh powder and what have you got?
Something to dream about if you're not here. That's what you've got!
March 1     10 cm  to  309cm
I am about to make the trek to the Renoirs Winter Garden driveway. There is a 10 cm dump that needs dealing with. I know, I can feel the sympathetic vibes. You'll be thinking of me.
While you're thinking, think powder. (up to your earlobes that is)
Feb. 28     trace  to  305cm
It's snowing as we speak. That's good. It's also warming up again. That's not so good. It all depends on how warm it will get.
Mind you, as write this it's March in Oz. We'll have spring skiing before you know it.
Feb. 27     trace  to  310cm
See Yesterday!
(I'm outta here)
Feb. 26     4 cm  to  315cm
Wow! Right-on weatherman, give that man a lollypop. He came through again.
What can I tell you. Blue sky, white snow, dual mountains. What's that? You couldn't be here?
As always....I feel your pain.
Feb. 25     2 cm  to  313cm
Snow's back. We were promised one sunny day. We got two. So who's complaining? Besides, it's going to clear up later on in the day.
We've been promised.
Feb. 24     0 cm  to  323cm
The words for today are, Cold and Crisp. Not Cold cold you understand, there being hardly any wind but, good cold, crisp cold. Bring you shades, bring your camera and hé!
Don't forget the kids.
Feb. 23     5 cm  to  334cm
Sun, powder, runs that go on for ever. Need I say more?
I think not.
Feb. 22     10 cm  to  327cm
Variable. I think that's a good word and today I am sticking with it. This morning it was snowing, big fat ones. When I did the Renoir's Winter Garden driveway the sun came through. As I write this it's snowing again.
Go figure.
Feb. 21     23 cm  to  329cm
It's shoveling time again. One day it looks like spring is here. The next thing you know I am oiling up the shovel again.
Any bets on the final pack level this season? Who'll pick 4 Meters?
Feb. 20     9 cm  to  303cm
It's falling again down here. That liquid snow that's so easy to get of the driveway. The snowline is at Olympic station (for those who know Whistler Mountain). It's the sort of day where everybody heads for the top and stays there.
Except me ofcourse. I've got to do this report. People depend on me, why! Just yesterday....
YadaYada.
Feb. 19     34 cm  to  307cm
34cm! I'll repeat that in American. 12 Inches or one foot! Need I say more? I think not except..
Where we worried about spring skiing?
Nah!
Feb. 18     15 cm  to  285cm
As you can see I was right yesterday, we did get snow.. 15CM! that is. Anyway, the whole village is a bit bleary eyed today. Ross came home yesterday and we had a party.
By the way for those of you who missed the news. You can now ski on Ross's Gold, a black diamond run.
Feb. 17     0 cm  to  277cm
An other clear day. We do have some high overcast which I think will start to work its way down during the day. It may bring snow then again it may not, either way I've covered all bases.
Feb. 16     trace  to  283cm
Oh Man! You should see this. Sun, snow, mountains that go on for ever.
If you can't be here this season remember this date for next year. The week after Valentines (Feb.14). Make a note!
Feb. 15     4 cm  to  286cm
Somebody up there is eating snow! We get 4 cm but the pack drops to 286?
All I can say is, don't eat the yellow snow!!
It's snowing right now so bring your goggles, mind you by the time you get up there you may very well hit a sunny spot.
Ahhh mountain weather. You gotta love it.
Feb. 14     5 cm  to  296cm
Renoir's guests are raving again! It looked kind of grey from down here yesterday but up there it was gorgeous. If anything there was too much fresh snow.
Today looks good I can see the tops now and than but I hear we're in for more snow!
Feb. 13     18 cm  to  294cm
Well, we're back to 'that' again. Snow on top and, uhh, liquid snow down here.
Never mind, we've got nearly 3 meters now which means spring skiing is going to be a blast. Are you coming?
Feb. 12     13 cm  to  268cm
It's obviously a gold medal day here in Whistler. Ross got his medal back!
Oh yeah, right, before I forget, we also got 13 cm and as I look outside probably an other 13 to come.
Oh by the way, I don't want to hear an other word about how Whistler is on "high'er" ground after all.
Feb. 11     7 cm  to  262cm
You'll notice that although we only claim a 7cm snowfall the pack has increased from 253 to
262 cm ?!?
It's magic. The same sort of magic the Olympic committee uses to detect minute traces of non-performance enhancing recreational substances in gold medal winners!
Yep. We're all a bit choked around here. You understand.
Feb. 10     0 cm  to  253cm
Well what do you know. It's snowing, right there on the valley floor. Moreover it's staying. And here we thought spring had sprung ahead of schedule.
This by the way is happening just in time. Come Friday this place is going to be hopping. Not a spare bed to had anywhere in town.
It's Valentine's weekend don't you know.
Feb. 9     6 cm  to  256cm
[-]2nd edition 11:15am local time. Clouds are breaking up, bring shades.[-] As promised, we got our 6 cm. There are low overcast clouds moving through the area but it should clear towards the afternoon. It's still a bit too warm down here in the valley. Mind you, it makes it easy to keep the Renoir's Winter Garden driveway snowfree.
Feb. 8     trace  to  252cm
The official Renoir's guests survey says.. Gorgeous! We definitely did get those sunny periods as promised yesterday, one big one as a matter of fact.
Better get here in hurry because this time we've been promised up to 6 cm later on this afternoon.
Feb. 7     6 cm  to  257cm
Eventhough it is kinda splotchy out there right now it is definitely getting cooler and we've been promised sunny periods later on this aft.
For those of you wondering about splotchy, it's, well.. I look out there and I see a bit of everything, some fog patches, a clear(ing) spot, the sun trying to peak through in short, splotchy.
Feb. 6     3 cm  to  253cm
It is clear today. I can see the mountain tops from down here however, the weatherman says snow's on the way and he may be right.
The satelite picture shows systems stacking up over the Pacific like 747's over JFK.
Just ask the folks in California.
Feb. 5     6 cm  to  256cm
Is it hot enough for you? It's definitely T-shirt weather today problem is, we're not due for it until late next month.
Oh well let's not complain let's get it while it's uhh.. Hot?
Feb. 4     2 cm  to 253cm
Those clouds yesterday? They kept right on moving. We're having a bit of a warming trend.
Unseasonally warm says the weatherman. Too bloody right mate, say the Aussies.
Me? Hé, I just live here.
Feb. 3     trace  to 256cm
There are definitely high clouds moving in. It looks like fresh snow's on the way.
Temperatures are behaving as well. Above 0 during the day minus 0 at night with a spread of about 6-8 degrees between here (the village) and the glacier.
Feb. 2     5 cm  to  260cm
Just about clear (a few fog patches rolling through) A fresh layer of powder. (Not too much) need I say more?
OK I will. There is snow (finally) in Nagano. There is snow (lots) in Whistler. World?! What are you waiting for? Get your skiboots on and remember... Renoir's is the place.
Feb. 1 1998    0 cm  to  259cm
If you did not make it here yesterday I sure hope you got here today.
The weather is holding. Bring your shades. Leave the gortex at home! Oh and..
Don't forget that camera!
