It's cold and sunny up there. That 11cm actually fell over the last few days. Spring skiing at it's best people, fresh snow and sunshine. I'll be off to Mexico for a couple of weeks so this is it for the report for a while. Have a great a slide while I'm away.
Last day of April guys. One more month (and a few days) and we're done. Ski out into the village has been over and done with for a few days now but there is lots of snow left on top. Ride'm!
We had some serious rain down here, not sure how high up you had to go for it to be snow. The big question, how long can the village ski-out hold.
It's all over, the festival was here, Whistler mountain is closed, it's very quite around here now. Late spring skiing and riding is happening on Blackcomb and the big question is when does the rideout into the village finally melt away?
Last day people. Whistler Mountain closes today and Blackcomb will be your destination from now until Jun 3rd. We may get some rain today but for the rest it's spring skiing all the way.
Brrr, it's cold! Oh well the sun is shining, it'll warm up as the day progresses. Tomorrow is the last day people! Whistler Mountain closes and we'll have to boogie down Blackcomb for the rest of the season. Ski-outs into the village are still in operation!
More spring is in the air. At the festival we have the superpipe semi finals and in the square Toots & the Maytals are going to lay it on. Be here.
Spring's here (again). The ski and snowboard festival is on. What more do you want? We've got a system coming through this weekend, nothing big mind you but we may get a few rain/snow episodes.
Welcome to Whistler, home of the late season Big Dumps. 16 cm on top of yesterday's 11. Let's have some end of season fun riding guys and check out the big festival while we're at it.
The freezing level is holding! It's lightly raining down here but snowing up there! It's getting later in the season but I think I will have to go up and partake anyway. Later!
After an excellent weekend we've got an other storm coming through today bringing an other solid dump. More excellent days in the immediate future? It looks like it, oh happy days!
An all around solid spring day. You can still find secret stashes of yesterday's pow, the runs are groomed softpack, the sun shines (occasionally) and the vis is good.
Excellent, actual pow in April. Good enough to ride all the tree runs again! Who'da thunk it? Sunny sky's tomorrow, anything else we can do you for?
That Pacific storm has arrived, snow is falling (rain down here). Things will liven up as the centre of the storm approaches with big wind and big snow but it should all be over by tomorrow, as a matter of fact it looks like Saturday and especially Sunday are going to be excellent.
The word for today is "unsettled". Maybe some sun, maybe some clouds, maybe a flurry or two. You get the idea. We're still on for the big one tomorrow. 20 cm anyone?
Sunny day today, bring your sunscreen. It's not gonna last says the man, we'll see.
Nice day, a lot cooler snow in the back bowls was excellent. Spring skiing all around. Big snow/rain on the way for the weekend.
It's not pretty out there people, we've got rain/snow depending on how high you are and big wind all around. It's also getting colder, we may even get snow from top to bottom! Stay tuned.
We're going to have some rain/snow over the weekendbut the man has been wrong these last few days so maybe our luck is going to hold. So far so good if you like riding schmoo that is. Snow harvesting has begone on the village level sections of the mountain ride-outs.
This being a morning report don't you think the temperature is a little high? 9 Degrees at Pig Alley and 5 in the valley! Yep, it's spring alright. Expect to be riding schmoo from top to bottom.
Turned out to be a nice springday after all. The man had said to look out for rain/snow, instead we got a watery sun poking through the clouds. The slush was fine as always at the end of the day.
Wow, April 4 already, where do the days go? Absolutely gorgeous day yesterday with today looking ok as well but without sun. Something ugly is coming this way though, snow turning to rain for Thursday says the man. Let's hope he's wrong.
There you have it, 8cm of fresh and all the way down to the valley floor mind you. Looks like winter isn't ready to let go just yet! Looks like it's going to be sunny at least until Thursday. Come and partake would be my advice.
Ohw, it's cold people, at leat compared to the spring temperatures we had the last few days. Luckily the wind is reasonable. Snow? It could happen today and/or tomorrow
We got a weak system coming in that might or might not drop some precip. Between now and Sunday we should get some fresh snow all the way down to Olympic Station. For the rest it's spring skiing all the way.
Another sunny day, bring your sunscreen. expect to ride schmoo at the bottom of the hill but nicely groomed hardpack at the top.
No real snow in the forecast guys but lots of sunshine and great visibility. Spring skiing and riding on a big base is here.
Nice! Off piste it's hard until the sun gets a chance to warm it up. The groomers are fine in the morning and the park is nice and crisp when you get there first thing.
Groomed hardpack is what this is called. Frozen corduroy is what we call it. Anyway this is what you get when the sun turns snow into slush and you have cold nights to freeze it all up nice and solid. We do have a grandiose looker of a day with unlimited vis. Bring your camera!
Peak chair was closed yesterday, it's going to be gorgeous up there. Lower down the slush which started near the bottom of the emerald chair will be frozen. Give it some time to soften up.
Lot's of snow in the alpine but the vis is going to be a problem today and the snow's heavy. Stay in the trees and as always stay high.
Welcome to spring ( a few days late) obviously we're having spring weather altough to me that usually means more sunshine. We're having rain at the bottom and snow on top again. We're actually expecting quite a bit of snow, stay high and wear your gortex s'all I can say.
More snow and warmer air on the way. Where have I heard that before? The lower parts were icy in the morning and took a while to soften up yesterday. No doubt it'll be the same today.
Softgroomed conditions, decent visibility -a solid day. Lower parts of the mountain are beginning to show mud patches but not yet on the actual runs.
Epic! The high chairs opened up for the first time in 3 days after some serious wind and snow events up there. Need I say more?
Snowing up there, raining down here. You are going to hear that a lot from now on. For today the alpine will be closed so it's mid mountain runs hopping in and out of the snowline (and the rain/snow line)as you ride up and down.
Not bad, it's warm but there is no serious precipitation. Slush riding all'round execpt in the high alpine. No real new snow in the forecast at least until midweek.
As promised the rain did come yesterday, as a matter of fact it came pretty well the moment we hit the hill. Still we had lots fresh but very heavy snow. The mountain is very juicy top to bottom now, let's just hope it doesn't freeze up tonight - the man says it won't so make sure you put slush wax on your plank(s)
March is keeping it up! That system we were promised came in dumped 14cm and is still dumping. The man figured warm air was going to arrive as well. It's going to be a race to the top as far as the freezing level is concerned but for now it's all good and I'm outta here.
I guess March lives up to its reputation. Taking us from a seriously not-purdy Sunday to a near epic Wednesday. Lots of pow lots of sun, what more do you want? No fresh snow today but more sun and new system arriving tonight!
Winter is back, that much is clear. Actually yesterday started out very sketchy with a trace of snow on ice. Then it started snowing and here we are 23cm's later and all's well.
We're back in business people, we've even got a trace of fresh snow overnight and it's snowing as I write this. Not big time mind you but still, snow down here in the valley is all good with me. We may even get 5 to 10 cm between now and tomorrow says the man. Stay tuned.
Who says karma doesn't work, the cold air is back where it belongs! There's big wind, the high chairs may not open again today. The cold air is drying out that soggy mess that fell yesterday, it ought to be excellent in the high alpine if and when it opens.
It's not purdy guys. If you got 18 cm of snow and the base only grew by 2 cm you know you're in trouble. It's wet, it's soggy and the high lifts are Not open! A good day to stay home and use whatever karma you got to draw some colder air this way.
It's going to be a weird weekend, lot's of snow if you don't mind staying in the alpine (and who does?) but lots of rain further down the hill. The man says to expect up to 40 cm tomorrow, I'll see it when I believe it! Conditions today were snowing on top but wet as you came off the hill.
16 cm and it's all good. Ok not the lower parts of the mountain but the alpine chairs are all in the "zone". More snow to come, freezing level more up and down yoyo action to come.
An other 8 c's! With the air getting colder the pow is getting lighter and it's back to solid winter conditions around here. It was quite windy with more of the same (wind and snow) in the forecast for tomorrow.
We did get snow, quite a lot actually but it was heavy unless you stayed very high. The freezing level was more or less at the bottom of Emerald chair. It's getting colder now. There is more big snow on the way arriving this time with a much lower freezing level.
It's going to be an ok day today, no precip maybe even some sun peeking through. We'll see snow starting tonight and we will definitely believe it when we see it!
It's kind'a soggy down here in the valley but it's freezing in the Alpine. I'll go check out the situation up there. I'll be back!
It feels positively springy down here in the valley. There is going to be some slush riding on the lower parts of the mountain. We've got a lot more snow in the forecast but as always the freezing level is going to be the big question all we know for sure... It's not coming down the the valley floor anytime soon.
Not much fresh snow, the warm air has arrived and we have big wind on top, not all together a stellar day. There is not much precip in the forecast so I am not worried about the warm air, it might be quite pleasant out of the wind. I'll go check it out.
The first flurries came and went today but they didn't drop much. We're expecting more tonight but we will have problems with the temperature. Fingers crossed it'll be snow top to bottom.
An other clear and cold one. Unlimited vistas and excellent snow - would that work for you? We've got some snow arriving tonight and more tomorrow and on the weekend although we may have freezing level issues from Saturday onwards. Stay tuned.
Big wind and big cold up there today but in the afternoon the clouds cleared away and the view returned. With all this fresh snow we've been having, who's complaining?
Wow! That was one hell of a sunny period. The whole day was basically one big sunny period. It just started clouding over now and a few snowy stragglers are coming down. I wonder if those are the flurries that we've been promised.
It's letting up, we expect a little bit tonight and a smidgen tomorrow after that its cloudy with sunny periods until Friday. Complaining - who me??
The dumps keep on coming and still you're not here. What's up with that?? You don't mind if I go and poach your lines do you, you not being here and all?
And there you have it, 13 c's mind you it snowed all day long on and off (but mostly on) and that hasn't even been measured yet this being an afternoon report and all. More to come says the man and he's been mostly right!
Get ready, we've got a big one coming our way. The conditions are already good to great but if the promised snow arrives things are going to be epic by next Monday.
It's snowing as we speak, we'll have light snow and/or flurries all day long. There is nowhere on the mountain you can't go and with all this snow accumulating all over the place it's Fun!
Everyday a few centimeters and before you know it you've got a foot or more. It's going to go on like this for the rest of the week. Bring it on!
Looks like we got "up to" 9 cm. More on the way. A lot of yesterday's snow fell after the mountain closed. You mind if I go check it out? Later!
Pretty epic day up there yesterday? I thought so. More snow on the way, it's snowing right now all the way to the valley floor and the man says to expect up to 15cm! The rest of the week? More Snow!
OK guys, finally some decent fresh pow for you to ride on. It's still windy up there, stick to the trees if you can. More (much) snow on Monday!
Bit of a miscue guys we did find frozen rain on top of the freshly fallen snow yesterday except in the high alpine so that's where those who could hung out all day. The word for today is wind, strong wind! The good news? The wind is pushing snow this way.
It's was seriously windy yesterday with the freezing level going up and down like a yoyo. We did manage to get 7 cm on the hill which makes for 38cm over the last 7 days. There is still going to be some serious wind in the morning but it should get less as the day progresses.
It's snowing right now, not sure when it'll stop but when it does it'll start up again in a few hours that's just the kind of day it is. Come and enjoy the accumulated pow. By the way, it's Presidents week in the US. It's going to be busy!!
Happy Valentines day! We're at the midpoint of the 06/07 season guys, let's make it count. Ok, so the first "big" one only dropped only 4 cm altough it felt like more in the right places but the man still insist more is coming. You can ride all the off-piste areas right now but a 10c drop will make it awesome again.
The big one is coming or actually the big ones are coming. The first one arrives tomorrow dropping about 10c and then more on Thursday, more on Friday and so on! Be here!
8 Cm's sofar, not bad but mind you it was a bit heavy yesterday. The temperature has dropped some more so the quality of the snow will have improved. We may get some more cm's here and there but the good news is they've got us down for a big one on Thursday. Stay tuned.
Ok, so we got that 1cm..Enjoy! More to the point though there is more on the way 5 to 10cm today and more tonight says the man. I believe him he's been right most of the time. Meanwhile conditions are improving greatly with most of the off-piste and glade runs being fun to ride again.
The first of the flurries arrived yesterday afternoon. The good news, its freezing from top to bottom. There are more small systems on the way dropping loads in the low numbers, the first one should arrive tonight. It looks like we're going rebuild our pow base 1cm at a time over about a week.
Ok, we have a steady change in temperature from top to bottom. My guess would be that right now the snowline is at Olympic station or a couple of 100 meters above. That's important because it's raining in the vill. The ice age seems to be over, you can ride hard pack on top or slush further down for now.
The temperature is trending in the right direction and we actually got some snow. The man says there is more snow in the clouds but it could also be rain. Stay tuned.
Unsettled! I think that word needs more recognition. Un settled as in not settled as in, does anybody know what the "H" is going on?? I certainly don't, rain or snow, freeze or thaw. It's all happening somewhere on this hill. I'll let you know as soon as I figure it out myself.
You didn't cross your fingers, did you? Well after the snow the rain did come yesterday so we'll be riding schmoo all the way top to bottom. Enjoy it while you can, the temperature is going to drop towards the end of the week and we may even get some snow. Hmmm? Where have I heard that before?
Well, the warm air is arriving as we speak but at least this morning it was snowing. I am sure a couple of cm's fell after the daily measurement was taken we'll see when the next report comes out. Fingers crossed now for no more precipitation until some cold air arrives again.
Yesterday was much of the same but today the first snow started falling in the afternoon. The good news is that it fell from top to bottom and that there is more on the way. The bad news is that warm air is on the way as well. We'll have to see if the warm air and the promised precipitation meet over our mountains.
Happy February! Oh and the balmy days are over in case you hadn't noticed it - at least for today. Not sure about the weekend it looks we'll have snow but only on the higher elevations. I.E Rain in the village!
It looks like the inversion is on again. The cold air will start arriving tonight with the first snow getting here on Saturday. Guess what..., Sunday's forecast -10 to 15cm!
It's getting nippier up there guys and the wind is picking up a bit as well. The snow is drying out quite nicely but some fresh would be appreciated. Real Soon Now! Do You Here Me Ullr??
We have some light cloud overhead but nothing is going to fall out of them. We'll be back to sunshine and spring skiing tomorrow. We're still on for some serious cold and possibly some snow this weekend.
Weird! It's T-shirt time in the alpine...In January?? The weather channel has us down for a drip of snow next weekend, we'll see.
We have an inversion guys! The snow on top should be nice soft. Don't forget your camera, shades and sunscreen.
Spring skiing in January, it can't be bad. It is still freezing up at night of course so the early runs are a bit gnarly but the the sun softens it up after which it's all good.
Nice clear day, the ice is softening up a little. A system passed overhead but nothing fell out. It's going to be sunny and warm for at least the next 5 days. The ice will be gone and we'll be riding spring conditions soon. Don't forget your sunscreen!
Ugly! Ugly walking to the mountain through the slush. Ugly on top of the mountain on the ice. We may get a bit of snow tonight and tomorrow after that it's clear days as far as the eye can see.
Not the spiffy-est of days. It was raining in the village on and off all day with the rain making it all the way up to Olympic Station. Higher up the snow was heavy as concrete. We've got a dry spell coming our way with sunshine later on in the week.
The report says 2 cm but I am sure it's more by now. It's been snowing since the measurement was made and feels like it's going to be a 10cm or more day. Bring it on!
After 5 cm yesterday and 2 today the waiting is for the Big One. It feels like snow out there although nothing outrageous. 10 cm every day would work for me.
Not bad, 13 cm. Of course we're spoiled rotten this year. Elswehere people are begging for that much snow while we just shrug it off.
5 Cm a good start. More to come (It's snowing very lightly right now). Later!
Snow's a'coming, I can feel it in my bones. It's the old war wound don't you know. Solid days upon those hills, lots of snow, there is nowhere you can't go.
11 Cm, better than a kick in the ass anytime. More snow to come? The man says so and he's been right most of the time. It'll start on Thursday and go on into the weekend. Got any plans?
Snow tonight! Don't know how much but we've been promised some and I am going to keep them to their promise!
Almost a balmy day up there with sunshine and barely any wind. No serious snow in the forecast so it's groomed softpack and man made snow on the menu for a while.
Snow did not arrive and it doesn't feel like we'll get any today. It got a little icy on the run outs to the village but they're making snow like crazy which makes for a nice soft layer giving your plank(s) something to bite in.
Nice and toasty up in the Alpine today but further down below it was cold. You gotta love these inversions. We may get some fresh snow tonight or tomorrow, I'll let you know.
Visibilty to die for, hardly any wind, lots of snow but Cold!! Ok for all you Eastern sliders this is nothing I know but we started this day in -23c and that for me is Very Cold. The sun did warm things up during the day but still, I like my days around the -6 to 9c mark.
A gorgeous day today, very cold but no wind and all that fresh pow we couldn't get to yesterday. We've got a bunch of sunny but cold days in the forecast. Bring your camera but make sure to layer up.
It's not a pretty sight up here people altough... who knows for sure! The upper chairs were closed again for the second time this season with wind gust over 100 km/h. Meanwhile it's raining in the vill (meaning more snow on top of course) so it's a good day to stay home.
Pay particular attention to the wind guys. High winds means high chairs may close and we had some closures yesterday. That does of course mean that there's still fresh pow in the alpine today! Later!
Epic, EPIC frigging EPIC! Where are you anyway??
Well there you have it, it's officially a 20 cm (or more) day which around here means. No Friends! I am outta here.
Today is the day, a truckload should arrive this afternoon....
A solid day, the visibility left something to be desired on Whistler Peak today but once you got below the fog it was all good. Big snow is coming our way stay tuned.
Ok, the temperature is dropping again, more importantly the wind is died down. Yesterday almost all the higher chairs were closed because of extreme wind conditions. All that snow we got over the last couple of days is still there. Untouched! See ya.
72 cm in 24 hours! That's just sick! Ok it's not all roses we do have rain in the village but the freezing level is supposed to fall back to village level by tonight with more snow in the forecast.
************Happy New Year ********
A fine last day of the year, snow galore but it has been very very busy in the vill as well as on the hill! Let's blow this year off with a bang. See you in 2007.
