Happy New Year!! With the wind steadily picking up during the day we're going to have some warmer air, some flurries and then some major snow overnight. For now it's groomed hardpack with some fresh cover dropped on it during the day.
Last day of the year people, we'll have sunny skies with cloudy periods today, excellent end of year conditions I'd say. We're going to be beaten up the rest of the week, huge snow but rising and then dropping temp's during midweek. Gonna be interesting!
Okay so it was a little dump but hey, a dump is a dump and 11cm is a solid amount of snow, something you can work with. We have some nice clear weather coming up for a today and tomorrow and then we're really going to get it but we don't have to worry until next year.
Fresh snow, tonight, for sure! What, you've heard me say this before? Yeah.. but this time it's true! Anyway we still did not get our promised dump so it's groomed runs, mogul fields and gnarly tree runs all 'round. But as I said fresh snow is a coming, stay tuned.
It's seems like we're getting our promised dump in drips and drabs. I think a stern word with the weatherman is in order. Meanwhile 6 cm is enough to avoid the runs icing up and to refresh the tree runs. Conditions; groomed softpack, all terrain accessible.
Still awaiting the big dump here!! Could somebody pass on the message please? Conditions are groomed softpack with powder fields to be found only by those in the know. I am in the know, talk to me, it's cheap.
A bit of fresh, a bit of sun, not an all together bad day. It may even be a corker but I'll tell you all about that tomorrow. We're still expecting big snow but not untill Thursday.
Merry Christmas Santa's been too busy the delivery of fresh snow is late! The weatherman is sure it's going to happen maybe right now as a matter of fact or right now or right... Okay I won't push my luck. It will happen. Stay tuned
A beautiful day people, one for the books. Fresh snow, sun peeking through, unlimited visibility. Anything else we can do for you? Snow tonight? Consider it done.
Excellent conditions. You're thinking of coming to Whistler for Christmas? Worry not, you made the right decision. Everything on Blackcomb is open and on Whistler we are only awaiting the opening of the Symphony zone.
Seven cm fresh, it could be more but I'll take it. There's a lot more in the forecast. It's getting busy up here people, must be some sort of a holiday coming up soon.
Groomed softpack as far as the eyes can see. Powder patches for those in the know. Snow in the forecast. Winter is officially here. That is the news for today.
More is better when it come to snow that is. Today and tomorrow we'll get a few flurries and then on Saturday it's back to Big Snow. Just sing the song with me will you. Let is snow let it snow let it etc...
It's lightly snowing down here on the...wait a minute I am having a Deja Vu moment here. Anyway as I was saying it's snowing and there is more to come says the man. Hey, it's almost winter. What did you expect?
It's lightly snowing down here on the valley floor as I write this. The beginning of something big? Tune in tomorrow!
30 Centimeters, what can I say. Come and get it. Oh by the way, we're not done yet, there's more to come. Sorry, gotta go now. I uhhh gotta go see a man about a thing.
The good news is, We got 13cm last night and 23 the day before. We're back in the off-piste business I.E. we can ride everywhere, not just the groomers. The better news is, snow today, flurries tonight, flurries on Monday, snow on Tuesday, snow on.... well you get the message.
Okay guys, this is for real we've got some serious snow coming this way. It's going to be a crazy weekend if the bookings are anything to go by. Still pondering if you should come here for the Holidays? Ponder no more.
There is snow in the forecast as far as the eye can see. 10cm tonight, more during the day tomorrow and on Saturday. It was snowing all day long today so you can pretty well add an other 5cm to the total.
10 Cm fresh - not bad for an appetizer. The groomers where nice and soft with fresh pow mixed in with the groomed corduroy. Riding off piste is becoming do-able as well. Much more to come starting tonight and tomorrow and really hitting it big time on Friday.
Alright, I think this it. Clouds moved in today and it looks as though they will drop some snow tonight. Wednesday and Thursday will see periods of snow and on Friday and Saturday we're going to have a dump. Keep 'm crossed.
Not much news on the western front people, those flurries never got here yesterday and it looks like it's going to be midweek before we'll see some fresh snow. It's sunny days and groomed runs for now.
As you can see we've got an inversion going on. That's actually good news because the man predicited it. If he's right about that maybe he's right about the flurries we're supposed to get tomorrow as well. Keep'm crossed.
We've got several storm fronts on the way. We may get a few flurries as soon as Sunday but by Tuesday it supposed to start dumping seriously. Meanwhile the guns are blasting but be aware the runout to the village is marginal at best with seriously icy and bald patches all the way.
Right now we are basically riding groomers because the off piste stuff is kinda though depending on where you are on the mountain. On slopes where the sun hits things soften up quite nicely but in the shade the ride is bumpy. The snowguns are going full blast again so the rain damage will be mostly fixed by tomorrow.
Okay so, yesterday was ugly, 'nuff said! Today we start the process of drying out the snow and grooming it. The temperature is dropping back to normal. It looks like we have a few sunny days coming up. It'll be snowmaking and grooming until the weekend.
Have an other look at that wind speed. Yup Whistler is closed and Blackcomb has one chair running. We got a huge dump as promised -61cm in two days! Right now we've got the Hawaii Express passing through so high temps and a light freezing rain. The rain will stop and temps will go back to normal tomorrow.
Nice little dump, more to come it's snowing very lightly right now. We still have that realy weird weather coming this way, it's going to get warmer but exactly when and how much rain/snow it's going to deliver seems to be a moving target. The ski-outs into the village did not open officially but everybody is riding down regardless, no prob!
Cold? Oh yeah, it was cold - still is as a matter of fact. We were expecting the snow to be falling by now but sofar it's only been a trace. More to come tonight though, says the man.
It's been clear for the last two days but now we've got some seriously weird weather coming our way. Look at those temperatures again - and it is going to get colder yet! Snow should start falling tomorrow aft but then the weather is really going to get weird with the temp shooting up and the freezing level going to 2500 meter IE well above our peaks. Anyway tomorrow is December and the ski-outs into the village will open. Yeah - no more downloading.
Not much in the way of fresh snow guys, we where supposed to get a dump tonight but it don't think it's gonna be anything to scream about. Sunny are days coming up so it'll be spring skiing at least until the weekend.
It's a winter wonderland out there people. It kept snowing well into the evening last night. It even snowed - get this - in Vancouver! At least that's what I've been told. More snow tomorrow. Gotta go.
Just thought I'd let you know, it's snowing big time out there. We were expecting flurries but it started about 11AM and it's been going steadily since. It looks like I've got about 10cm on the driveway. This could easily go on until midnight says the forecasting man! Keep your eyes on the New Snow field on tomorrows report.
Fresh snow tomorrow, what can I say the weatherman's timing was off? We're still looking at two frontal systems coming through. One drops by tomorrow and the second bigger one on Wednesday. Keep'm crossed.
Very high clouds are now moving in. It's the end of the high pressure area with two mild storm fronts coming in, one today and one on Monday. We should get a few fresh centimeters out of them. The mountains are hopping on this American Thanksgiving opening weekend.
And there you have it. Official opening day for both Whistler and Blackcomb Mountains. Nice spring like conditions with the upper Olympic run on Whistler officially opened up as well so no more downloading from the top. The first clouds of an approaching Pacific system should arrive tomorrow evening.
The high pressure area overhead will hold on until Friday so it's clear and sunny days for all you American Thanksgiving visitors. The long range forecast is for snow all next week.
It's like spring skiing up here except for the sun hanging really low and shining in your face. No new snow in the forecast for a week but with this cold they are making it by the bucket. Every snow gun is blazing.
We're looking at about a week of sunshine. It'll be cold so the guns of winter will be going full blast. There is no new snow in the forecast until the weekend at the earliest.
So here's what's happening, Whistler Mountain is open. The gondolas are running plus the Emerald and Green chairs. Olympic is roped off at the bottom of Emerald but people slip the rope and make it all the way to Olympic station without to much problems. We had that 14cm plus they're making snow so it won't be long until Olympic is opened up officially.
Here it is, the big one. Opening Day (early that is). One meter of snow, downloading from the top at the end of the day.
So we had 5 cm of snow in the village but that has melted away by now. Hey, it's November after all! We have a nice base to get this season started and plenty of terrain to try it out on, can't wait until tomorrow.
And It's Official. Opening this Saturday Nov 17th. Five days ahead of schedule! See you in the snow. PS it's snowing (lightly) in the vill right now.
Well there you have it, an official base measurement. 100cm ! Right now we're right in between two storms. The next one will bring more snow on Thursday but the air will warm up a bit as well. Word on the street is - Early Opening this weekend!!
The mountains are being seriously dumped on! It's wet snow in the valley but it's staying only about 200 meters up from the valley bottom. I may have to start rethinking my Nov 6th prediction! Stay Tuned.
It looks like we've got two snowperiods coming our way. From now until Tuesday we may get from 50 to 90cm and then the weekend of the 17th may bring an other half a meter. All that plus what they will make using the snowguns. Early opening? Believe me the marketroids would love it. Nothing sells ski packages like an early opening in other words the pressure is on!
Okay so we're still waiting for the temperature up there to drop but it's moving in the right direction. It's raining down here but up there it's falling like wet snow. The man says we'll have up to 45cm as far down as Olympic Station over the next 3 to 4 days. Keep'm crossed!
Here's the deal. At this moment there is no base to speak of at the lodges. The next two weeks will tell. Temperatures are starting to trend downwards and there is almost daily precip in the forecast between now and opening day. Will we have an early opening? for now I have to say -no- hoping ofcourse that Ullr will prove me wrong!
Okay children, that's it for October. We do move into November with some snow up there but we need some major dumping between now and opening day. The temperature is about right for this time of year so if there is no precip (and even if there is) expect the snowguns to start up any day now.
Well, some of the snow survived up there. Yep, a pineapple express come through with warm rain that washed the lower ski runs completely clean of snow. Right now we've got a high pressure area overhead so, sunny and warm. We're expecting a cold front with maybe some snow next week Monday.
Woke up to snow on the roof this morning! Threw my first snowball of the season. Is it wet? Of course. Will it stay? Of course not. Is it a good sign? You Bet!
It's getting serious now people. A couple of storm fronts are coming this way and it looks like we're deep enough into winter that the temperature will stay below freezing up high. We've got some 10-15cm and even 15-25cm days coming up. Stay tuned!
Well, the snow that fell in September has survived and the serious dumping is about to start. This weekend it'll be nice and dry so us locals can go play outside but come Tuesday a front moves in with cold air and precip. Let the base building begin!
Man, this is crazy. Yesterday when it was still September we had reports of snow in the valley! Okay, it was wet and lasted about half an hour but still. Is this a good omen for the coming winter or are we shooting our load too early? Time will tell..
It's snowing at the Roundhouse as we speak people! Will it last? Hey it's still September but who knows??
It's raining up there right now but a cold front is coming this way. We're expecting snow as far down as 1500 meters starting tonight! 1500 meters will put snow down well below the pig alley weather station!! Bring it on.
AND WE'RE BACK Yep the first snow of the 2007/2008 season has fallen up there in the high Alpine. Will it last? Who knows let's just say it's time to start looking for those planks. Now where did I put all that winter gear again? ============================================ 2007/2008 Season ============================================
It's cold and sunny up there. That 11cm actually fell over the last few days. Spring skiing at it's best people, fresh snow and sunshine. I'll be off to Mexico for a couple of weeks so this is it for the report for a while. Have a great a slide while I'm away.
Last day of April guys. One more month (and a few days) and we're done. Ski out into the village has been over and done with for a few days now but there is lots of snow left on top. Ride'm!
We had some serious rain down here, not sure how high up you had to go for it to be snow. The big question, how long can the village ski-out hold.
It's all over, the festival was here, Whistler mountain is closed, it's very quite around here now. Late spring skiing and riding is happening on Blackcomb and the big question is when does the rideout into the village finally melt away?
Last day people. Whistler Mountain closes today and Blackcomb will be your destination from now until Jun 3rd. We may get some rain today but for the rest it's spring skiing all the way.
Brrr, it's cold! Oh well the sun is shining, it'll warm up as the day progresses. Tomorrow is the last day people! Whistler Mountain closes and we'll have to boogie down Blackcomb for the rest of the season. Ski-outs into the village are still in operation!
More spring is in the air. At the festival we have the superpipe semi finals and in the square Toots & the Maytals are going to lay it on. Be here.
Spring's here (again). The ski and snowboard festival is on. What more do you want? We've got a system coming through this weekend, nothing big mind you but we may get a few rain/snow episodes.
Welcome to Whistler, home of the late season Big Dumps. 16 cm on top of yesterday's 11. Let's have some end of season fun riding guys and check out the big festival while we're at it.
The freezing level is holding! It's lightly raining down here but snowing up there! It's getting later in the season but I think I will have to go up and partake anyway. Later!
After an excellent weekend we've got an other storm coming through today bringing an other solid dump. More excellent days in the immediate future? It looks like it, oh happy days!
An all around solid spring day. You can still find secret stashes of yesterday's pow, the runs are groomed softpack, the sun shines (occasionally) and the vis is good.
Excellent, actual pow in April. Good enough to ride all the tree runs again! Who'da thunk it? Sunny sky's tomorrow, anything else we can do you for?
That Pacific storm has arrived, snow is falling (rain down here). Things will liven up as the centre of the storm approaches with big wind and big snow but it should all be over by tomorrow, as a matter of fact it looks like Saturday and especially Sunday are going to be excellent.
The word for today is "unsettled". Maybe some sun, maybe some clouds, maybe a flurry or two. You get the idea. We're still on for the big one tomorrow. 20 cm anyone?
Sunny day today, bring your sunscreen. It's not gonna last says the man, we'll see.
Nice day, a lot cooler snow in the back bowls was excellent. Spring skiing all around. Big snow/rain on the way for the weekend.
It's not pretty out there people, we've got rain/snow depending on how high you are and big wind all around. It's also getting colder, we may even get snow from top to bottom! Stay tuned.
We're going to have some rain/snow over the weekendbut the man has been wrong these last few days so maybe our luck is going to hold. So far so good if you like riding schmoo that is. Snow harvesting has begone on the village level sections of the mountain ride-outs.
This being a morning report don't you think the temperature is a little high? 9 Degrees at Pig Alley and 5 in the valley! Yep, it's spring alright. Expect to be riding schmoo from top to bottom.
Turned out to be a nice springday after all. The man had said to look out for rain/snow, instead we got a watery sun poking through the clouds. The slush was fine as always at the end of the day.
Wow, April 4 already, where do the days go? Absolutely gorgeous day yesterday with today looking ok as well but without sun. Something ugly is coming this way though, snow turning to rain for Thursday says the man. Let's hope he's wrong.
There you have it, 8cm of fresh and all the way down to the valley floor mind you. Looks like winter isn't ready to let go just yet! Looks like it's going to be sunny at least until Thursday. Come and partake would be my advice.
Ohw, it's cold people, at leat compared to the spring temperatures we had the last few days. Luckily the wind is reasonable. Snow? It could happen today and/or tomorrow
